Her classical vocal study eventually turned to sacred cantorial music. Cantor Bromberg earned a Masters of Sacred Music and Diploma of Hazzan from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 2000. Her unadorned style covers a vocal range from sweet soprano to earthy mezzo. She has performed Jewish music in concert from coast to coast, as well as traditional Celtic and Anglo folk music, Broadway musicals, jazz standards, pop, light classical, folk, country, and rock. Prior to coming to as cantor and director of music for synagogues across the country. She has taught at New York City’s Jewish Theological Seminary, the Academy for Jewish Religion, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Boston’s Hebrew College and at the Cantors Assembly’s Rozhinke Retreat. Both “Moment” and “Jewish Woman” magazine named her among the “Top Ten Jewish Female Vocalists” in America. But she is also a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hall, and has performed with the Mannes Opera, Amato Opera and Joseph Papp’s Opera at the Academy in New York City. This past year, accompanied by members of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, she sang the title role in Stephen Richards’s chamber opera “The Ballad of Ruth,” which also has just been released on CD. David Perper has been the featured cantor at the Gala Concert of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (continued on page 23) David Perper Temple Israel of Ridgewood will become a concert hall at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, with the inaugural program sponsored by Music at Temple Israel. “Light the Lights,” will feature traditional and modern Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino songs as well as Broadway standards performed by cantors from three synagogues and several outstanding musicians from Temple Israel’s membership. Headlining the concert will be Cantor Caitlin Bromberg of Temple Israel, Cantor Faith Steinsnyder of The Village Temple, Congregation B’nai Israel of New York City, and Cantor David Perper of Beth Haverim Shir Shalom in Mahwah. The performance will include inspiring, rousing, and liltingly affecting songs from Jewish sacred and secular folk music, musical theater, Ladino tunes, and Chanukah music, including well-known Chanukah songs with which the audience can sing along as well as classical cantorial Chanukah pieces and very contemporary choral art music.
