November 25, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 15 Glen Rock Roundup Parent seminar offered On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the Gifted Child Society is offering an evening parent seminar, “Once the Gifted Program Ends.” This program will focus on navigating a child through the middle school and high school years and setting a path for finding the right college. Among the topics to be discussed are curriculum options and extracurricular activities strengthen a college application, and the advantages and disadvantages of attending a private high school. The seminar will be presented by Joseph Cafaro in the office of the non-profit Gifted Child Society, 190 Rock Road, Glen Rock from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Plans are being made for programs on bicycle maintenance and safety, Ridgewood to Rochelle Park bike path rides, long rides, including Greenway path in New York City, and a program to collect and repair of older bikes to be donated to the less fortunate. Holiday luncheon planned by Activities Club The annual Christmas/Chanukah luncheon of the Activities Club is planned for Dec. 17 at the Brownstone Inn in Paterson. The affair, which will begin at noon, includes a one hour open bar, a four-course lunch, and dancing to the Tony Giannella Orchestra. Members and guests are invited to attend. Library to close for Thanksgiving For the Thanksgiving holiday, the Glen Rock Library will close at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and all day on Nov. 26. The library will be open for its regular hours Nov. 27. Knitting/crochet leader sought Bergen County 4-H and the Glen Rock Library are looking for a knitting/crocheting leader for a “tween” knitting and crocheting club. The Glen Rock Library will host the once-a-month club, where participants will learn to knit, crochet, or both. This is a one-time opportunity to own this treasured keepsake. ESL conversation classes underway ESL Conversation Classes have begun. They will meet on Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Glen Rock Library’s quiet meeting room on the first level. Shona Perry, M.A., is leading the summer class. The sessions are informal and emphasize social aspects of speaking English. A newspaper especially for new English speakers, “Easy English News,” is provided by the library Many of the conversations revolve around its articles. The library is located at 315 Rock Road. Seniors Club welcomes new members The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club meets every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the municipal annex. Membership is $5 per year. Members enjoy a full schedule of events, such as meetings, card playing, games, entertainment by speakers and singers, day trips, and more. Library hosts Game Exchange The ongoing Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange located next to the Paperback Exchange at the front door of the library has proved to be so popular, it has been expanded to include games.
