Created in 1903 to settle the American League-National League rivalry, the World Series has been the annual showcase event of America’s national pastime. This encyclopedic set contains a complete set of official World Series highlights across six decades (1943-2008) with 50 hours of baseball action on the field, a 58-page pictorial retrospective of archival images, and Hall of Fame artifacts. The 65 World Series films, newly restored and digitized, show the action as it was captured at stadiums throughout the country. The greats of the game are all represented: Stan Musial, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Brooks Robinson, Tom Seaver, Johnny Bench, Willie Stargell, Yogi Berra, Derek Jeter, Albert Pujols, and many more. Memorable moments include “The Catch” by Willie Mays, Dan Larsen’s perfect game, Bill Maserowski’s series-winning walk-off homerun, Bob Gibson’s record-setting 17 strikeouts, Carlton Fisk’s dramatic homerun, Reggie Jackson’s three consecutive homeruns, Kurt Gibson’s game winner, and Jack Morris’ dominating 1-0 Game 7 masterpiece. Viewers will also note the changes in the technology used to capture the games. At first, there are black-and-white images with limited camera coverage and narration by legendary broadcasters Mel Allen, Bob Prince, Harry Caray and Vin Scully. The most recent footage includes color, multiple-camera angles, players and coaches wired for sound, and play-by-play from TV and radio broadcasters. Each game is a virtual time capsule of its era. Though pricey at the suggested retail of $229.95, this set would make a wonderful gift for that special baseball fan on your holiday list. Zorro had existed on screen in earlier incarnations, most notably as a silent film starring Douglas Fairbanks, a 1939 serial, and the Tyrone Power feature film of 1940. Zorro was introduced to TV viewers in a series of one-hour specials shown on “Walt Disney Presents,” starring Guy Williams. The character’s tremendous popularity led to a weekly series, which ran two seasons from 1957 through 1959. Those two seasons have just been released on Disney’s “Walt Disney Treasures” series: classic movies and TV shows specially packaged in collectible tins. Costarring with Guy Williams are Gene Sheldon as Zorro’s mute assistant Bernardo and Henry Calvin as the seriocomic Sergeant Garcia. “Zorro: The Complete First Season” contains the 39 episodes from the 1957-1958 season along with the two-part special “El Bandito”/“Adios El Cuchillo,” originally aired in 1960. “Zorro: The Complete Second Season” contains the 39 episodes of the 1958-1959 season along with the two-part “The Postponed Wedding”/”Auld Acquaintance,” originally aired in 1961. Each six-disc set is in a tin in Zorro’s preferred color -- black -- and features an Answer to Last Week’s Puzzle Answer to Last Week’s Puzzle
