Village man arrested for assault on police officer
A 46-year-old Ridgewood man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault Oct. 23 after he resisted arrest at his home in Ridgewood. He has been released after posting $10,000 bail. Detective Peter Youngberg attempted to serve the man with a summons issued in Palisades Park, but found that he was not at home at Darby Court. However, Detective Youngberg later spotted the man pulling his car up in front of the house and advised him that he was under arrest. The accused man reportedly became belligerent and attempted to break free, and assaulted the police detective. The accused also posted $500 for the offense in Palisades Park. The department has reported two separate incidents of car-smashing vandalism followed by theft from parked cars in the Whole Foods parking lot. On Oct. 20, a Tenafly resident reported that, while her vehicle was parked in the Whole Foods parking lot off Godwin Avenue, an unknown person smashed her window and took multiple items from the car. A second incident took place later the same day, when a Bergenfield resident reported that his car window was smashed and items were taken while the car was parked in the Whole Foods parking lot. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating these incidents. Over the past few months, a number of entries into unlocked parked cars have been reported in Ridgewood and in a number of neighboring towns. More recently, the perpetrators have taken to breaking windows even when the cars are locked, if they see articles of value inside the parked vehicles. Police remind residents to lock their cars, even when the vehicles are parked in the residents’ driveways, and to keep cell phones and other valuable objects stored out of sight. J. KOSTER
