Page 16 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • May 27, 2009 Ridgewood Pease Library restoration (continued from page 5) for the next 10 years, with the rent to go to the Ridgewood Public Library and its programs. After that, and a possible extension, the entire Pease Library will be returned to the village. Previous plans had called for use of the building as an archive and as an adjunct of the Bergen County Museum, and ultimately as the headquarters of an architectural firm, with the public allowed to use part of the building. All these plans fell through, however, for lack of funds. Bolger stepped in after a committee of citizens recommended that Ridgewood float a bond and attempt to attract state and county grants and private donations to restore the library. Bolger offered to expend up to $1 million on the restoration, and his offer was accepted. The project was completed on schedule and to the obvious satisfaction of village officials. Bolger’s generosity through the years has benefitted Lester Stable, West Bergen Mental Healthcare, Valley Hospital, West Side Presbyterian Church, Mount Bethel Baptist Church, the Schoolhouse Museum, the Ridgewood Post Office, police and fire departments, the Midland Park Community Center and the Glen Rock Public Library. Most recently, he donated funds to the Ridgewood Woman’s Club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Above: The exterior of the Pease Library. Top: A restored skylight.
