Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • May 20, 2009 Ridgewood Council honors Cecil Bruce on citizenship The Ridgewood Village Council paused to honor Cecil Bruce, an employee of the Ridgewood Public Library who also helps out at village hall, on his new citizenship. Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, Bruce came to the United States at the age of 24 and is now 52. He has worked at the public library as a custodian for 16 years and at village hall for three years. He officially became a citizen of the United States on March 27. Bruce said the six members of his family could not be present at the council ceremony because four of them had to work, but he reached out his arms to the council and the residents at the meeting and said, “This is my family right here.” He received sustained and warm applause as he shook hands with council members and received a plaque commemorating his citizenship and his work for Ridgewood.
