Community invited to Jazz Vespers
A service of Jazz Vespers will be held in the sanctuary of Emmanuel Baptist Church on Sunday, June 7 at 5 p.m. David Dallon (pictured) and Friends will offer musical accompaniment to this worship service. An instrumentalist, composer, and arranger, Dallon is a graduate of the Livingston College at Rutgers University where he majored in music performance. He performs in various local jazz venues and churches and has been heard on nationally broadcast television commercials. Joining him will be Dr. Edward Taylor on drums, Ed Fleishman on bass, and Brenda Earle on piano. Worship will be celebrated by Pastors Linda Hart Green and Judy Wheeler. Following vespers there will be coffee and discussion of jazz as a metaphor for life’s spiritual journey, led by Russ Edwards, jazz enthusiast, in the Peace Lounge at Emmanuel. Those of any religious background or no religious background are welcome. The free will offering taken will be for the benefit of the Center for Food Action. Emmanuel Baptist Church is located on Ridgewood Avenue at Hope Street in Ridgewood. Call (201) 444-7300 for details.
2004 after the buyout of Ridgewood Savings in 2001. Checks drawn on the bank will reportedly continue to be processed, and the bank’s assets have been taken over by North Jersey Community Bank, which has also secured the rights to the property. The FDIC issued a cease-and-desist order to Citizens Community Bank in September of 2008. That order cited unsatisfactory capital levels and lending practices it deemed “hazardous.” The bank closed the first weekend in May. Loan customers are advised to continue their regular payments until the matter can be sorted out. The bank building was scheduled to open under the new name this week. The last bank in northern New Jersey to be shut down was Dollar Savings Bank in Newark, which closed down in 2004. Before that, no northern New Jersey bank had been shut down for a dozen years.
