Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 18, 2009 Ridgewood Notes Kathy Ireland to appear at library Kathy Ireland, former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model will appear at the Ridgewood Public Library for a book signing and talk at the Ridgewood Public Library’s Belcher Auditorium on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Ireland will debut her new book, “Real Solutions for Busy Moms: Your Guide to Success and Sanity,” a down to earth, easy to read guide. “Real Solutions” discusses the core issues that Ireland says mothers discuss daily: managing money, developing a healthy lifestyle, keeping children safe, and finding and living your passion. Ireland will give a short talk about her book, take audience questions, and sign copies of her book. HILT goes to Paper Mill Playhouse HILT (Highlights in Leisure Time), an organization for Ridgewood seniors, in conjunction with the Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Department, is sponsoring a trip to the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn on April 16 for a performance of “1776.” Prior to the show, the group will have lunch at Charlie Brown’s in Millburn. The cost for the trip is $50 for members and $55 for non-members. Checks should be made payable to HILT. The bus will leave from the Graydon Pool parking lot at 10:45 a.m. (boarding begins at 10:30 a.m.) and return at approximately 6 p.m. New members are always welcome. Spring recess golf camp offered Ridgewood Parks and Recreation will offer a golf camp, with Total Golf Adventures of Bergen County, to village youth in grades kindergarten through six during the spring school recess. The four-day camp will be held at the Irene Habernickel Family Park on Hillcrest Road, April 28 through May 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Saturday, May 2 will a makeup date, if needed. The cost per child is $205 and includes all equipment. Instructors will teach proper golf setup, swing fundamentals, rules, etiquette, and scoring. Daily activities will include stretching, warm-ups, practice skills, and a general lesson of the day. Individual instruction will also be provided. Newcomers host events The Ridgewood Newcomers Club of the YWCA of Bergen County will host an Easter Eggstravaganza event on Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. This family event includes group gym classes, free play, balloon artist, and lunch. Space is limited. The event is limited to members of the Newcomers Club. Casino Night is planned for Saturday, April 4 from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at the Ridgewood Woman’s Club. This fundraiser will benefit several of the programs at the YWCA like the YWCA Rape Crisis Center, which provides a 24-hour counseling hotline, and the YWCA Adapted Programs that provides all day, before and after school childcare, and sport programs for children with disabilities. Special auction prizes include vacation homes, services and artwork that have all been donated by many local businesses and families. OLMC MOMS host events An OLMC MOMS family movie fundraiser will be held March 21 at 9:30 a.m. See “Star Wars IV: A New Hope” or “101 Dalmations” at Clearview’s Warner Quad in Ridgewood. The cost is $5 per person, and all proceeds will go to The Nurturing Place, a shelter for mothers in Jersey City. The OLMC MOMS will also be collecting diapers, wipes, and toddler snacks for the Nurturing Place at the theater that morning. On Wednesday, April 1, Dr. Lawrence Rosen, a leading expert and practitioner in “Green Pediatrics,” will present ways to keep children healthy and safe medically and via environmental changes. Dr. Rosen is on the staff of The Whole Child Center in Oradell. The meeting will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the OLMC Parish Center, with coffee, refreshments, and babysitting for walking children.
