This dinner and service, at which non-members of Temple Israel are especially welcome, represents a united effort by the entire Jewish community to renew interest in the fourth of the Ten Commandments, observing a weekly day of rest. This program is an interactive prayer service, and a joyous Shabbat dinner complete with song, ritual, and lively discussion. It is fun-filled evening of camaraderie that unifies Jews everywhere as one people. Tens of thousands of Jews at hundreds of locations across North America will celebrate Shabbat together on March 20. Temple Israel is one of about 700 synagogues across the continent that will open their doors to practicing and non-practicing Jews alike, so they may join together to experience and rejoice in a traditional Shabbat service and festive meal. Presided over by Rabbi David Saltzman and led by Cantor Caitlin Bromberg, attendees will experience an informative Friday night service and a traditional Shabbat dinner with all the rituals explained. Temple Israel members and non-members alike are invited to have an Italian-style kosher meal and socialize together. A discussion period will follow the kosher meal, during which child care will be provided. The Shabbat Across America dinner cost is $12 per adult, $8 for children six through12, and free of charge for children five years old and younger. The maximum price for a family is $40. This event is just part of the “March Madness” celebration at Temple Israel.
