Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 11, 2009 Ridgewood Club could become a conforming use by John Koster Ridgewood’s professional planner, Blaise Brancheau, recently received the village council’s approval to draft an ordinance that will bring the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club into compliance with the standards for operations of that type. “The intent is to fix the drafting of the ordinance, which was originally done poorly, so that the tennis club can go on with what it’s doing, and do it legally,” Brancheau said at last week’s work session. The amended ordinance, Brancheau said, would not lead to a proliferation of similar clubs because there is no available space. “It’s a single use that’s not likely to be repeated because it’s very difficult to find one area of the village that’s not in use, but above 10 acres,” Brancheau said. “I couldn’t find one area in Ridgewood where you could clear an area without clearing a whole block.” The planner noted that the club needed 12-foot fences to provide for catching stray tennis balls on their way to neighbors’ properties and some other non-intrusive features not covered by the present ordinance, and that he felt he could revise the present ordinance to make the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club a conforming use with no drastic changes to Ridgewood’s zoning. The council directed him to proceed with this pursuit. Ridgewood High School received two $500 grants from the On the Run managers at Exxon Mobil Corporation. The grant money will used to purchase white boards for the school.
