Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • June 10, 2009 Emmanuel asks... Can You Help? Our hat’s off to Grace Nursery School in Wyckoff for the continued support through an extended food drive. These are really great people who have been there helping where it counts the most. Here is a family facing real adversity. Michael turned 11 in May. He has spent an entire year dealing with a variety of problems, the most grave of which is medical treatment for a brain tumor. It has been a year of losses for him. In the past year, he has lost his sight due to brain surgery, he lost his father and his father’s support (his father moved and left no forwarding address), he lost his home because they could not afford to live there anymore, and he has lost 4-29-09 network as he his socialkaren/janine cannot attend school. EmmanuelHelp3x.75(4-29-09) hard His mom, Nancy, has worked and .75 to do the best she can, given 3 x tried the overwhelming circumstances. Nancy is a brave single parent with five children (Kaitlyn, age 12; Kristen, 10; Connor, 6; and Bobbie, 8). Because they have recently had to move into an unfurnished apartment, we are asking for a variety of things to help them find some kind of normalcy in a tough situation: summer clothes for the kids (call us for exact sizes), pots and pans, bakeware, cooking utensils, carpets, curtains or blinds, paint, lights or ceiling fixtures, a lawnmower, and major appliances (washer, dryer and refrigerator). Your contribution to the family financial assistance program helps Michael’s family and many other families who all have tough circumstances that are not put on hold because of the challenging economy. Call us to honor your father this Father’s Day by making a contribution in his name. Call us at (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited. Our current hours are Monday, 10 to 1; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 to 5; and Thursdays, 10 to 2. Our address is 174 Paterson Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Our website is www.emmanuelcancer.org. As always, thank you for helping the children and their families! Glen Rock Primary produces write-in Republican candidate Glen Rock’s two incumbent Democrats were the only official local candidates on the primary ballot, but a write-in with 18 votes produced an authorized Republican candidate for November’s general election. Carmine Nogara, a local volunteer fireman, received 18 votes as a writein, enough to entitle him to a spot on the November ballot as a Republican. Democratic candidates Joan Orseck and Byron Arnao received 143 votes and 138 votes, respectively. Before 1996, only one Democrat, Howard Bookbinder, had broken the Glen Rock Borough Council’s solid Republican tradition, but a controversial property tax revaluation that year led to an upsurge in which both Democrats and Independents made plausible bids for council seats. Dick Hahn was elected as an Independent candidate for mayor and Tom Ludlum and Mark McCullough both served as Democrats on the council. Orseck and Arnao are now the only two Democrats on the governing body, which has four Republican members and a Republican mayor, John van Keuren. J.
