Singers sought for opera production The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, long recognized as a major opera company in Bergen County, is looking for singers to join its volunteer chorus in its production of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” (A Masked Ball), to be presented at Bergen PAC in Englewood on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. All voices may apply. T’ai Chi Chih Classes offered The Valley Hospital will present courses on T’ai Chi Representatives of West Bergen Mental Healthcare and Saint Elizabeth’s Church in Ridgewood, met recently to discuss plans for The Chrysalis Program, a new parent education and support program geared to teen mothers and their children and housed at St. Elizabeth’s Church. “Being a parent is a tough job,” said Program Coordinator Amy Barr. “For many teen mothers, parenting is a job they are struggling to cope with alone. Many lack peer, family and community support. In addition, community resources for this group are hard to find and rarely tailored to the special learning needs and challenges of teen mothers.” The Chrysalis Program offers teen mothers a support network of professionals and peers in which to learn and grow with their child. Teen mothers, whether pregnant or post-partum, are eligible to participate. Program services include a weekly series of parentChih for beginners at the Luckow Pavilion in Paramus. Courses will begin Tuesday, June 30 at 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., and Thursday, July 2, at 9:30 a.m. Intermediate-level classes will start Tuesday, June 30, at 1 p.m. (class meets at 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month), and Thursday, July 2, at 4:15 p.m. The intermediate classes are designed for those who have completed the beginners’ program. BCP to present Marx Brothers radio show Bergen County Players concludes its 76th season with the world premier of “The Most Ridiculous Thing You Ever Hoid,” a radio show based on the comedy of the Marx Brothers. Written by Andy Seiler, Jim Beckerman, and Fred Wemyss, the show is based on the radio series by Nat Perrin, Arthur Sheekman, George Oppenheimer, and Tom McKnight. “The Most Ridiculous Thing You Ever Hoid,” will be performed at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell on June 6 and 7, at 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Free bridge lessons offered to teachers Area teachers interested in starting a school bridge club in their school are invited to participate in eight session School Bridge Program July 6 through 17 to learn bridge. Triathlon Club open to new members The Ramsey Triathlon Club will host a meeting on Wednesday, June 10 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Ramsey ing workshops; individual, group, and family therapeutic services; and monthly guest speakers and special events. “We are so grateful to the congregation of Saint Elizabeth for generously donating space at the church for the workshops,” Barr noted. To date, there are seven girls participating in the program, many of whom were referred by Several Sources Shelter in Ramsey, a Catholic home for single mothers. West Bergen therapist Roseanne Trapani co-facilitates the groups. West Bergen welcomes donations of childcare supplies, and books on parenting and childcare for the young women and their children.
