June 3, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 19 Glen Rock Roundup Senior Citizen Advisory to meet The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock will meet on Tuesday, June 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the municipal quarters located behind the CVS Pharmacy at 175 Rock Road. Ballet Concert set The Glen Rock Community School will present the 28th Annual Spring Ballet Concert featuring the Unicorne Dance Ensemble and the students of the after school dance program June 6 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The concert will be held in the Glen Rock High School auditorium at 600 Harristown Road. The ensemble is under the direction of Denise Piccino of Hawthorne. The program will include “The Pot of Gold” with music by Grieg and will feature the younger members of the ballet program. “Aurora’s Wedding, Act III” of “The Sleeping Beauty,” with music by Tchaikovsky, will feature all the members of the Unicorne Dance Ensemble and the students in the dance program. Guest artists are the program alumnae. The students come from many towns in Bergen County including Fair Lawn, Hawthorne, Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Oakland, and Upper Saddle River. Also performing will be the Dance Starz of Franklin Lakes, a tap dance company directed and choreographed by Tara Rota with Boris Levin. The Tricorne 18th century Dance and Performing Ensemble will also present three 18th century country dances. All tickets for the performances are $15 and are available through the students or at the door. For information, call the community school office at (201) 389-5011 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Maine trip planned The Glen Rock Community School is hosting a trip to Boothbay Harbor Maine Sept. 11 through 14. The trip includes three nights at the Sprucewold Lodge, a welcome champagne punch, three buffet breakfasts, Maine coast dinner at the lodge (featuring lobster, salmon, chicken or steak), a cruise along Maine’s picturesque coast, a day of sightseeing, and knowledgeable escorts for the entire trip. Prices are $549 per person, double occupancy; $609 per person, single occupancy; $529 per person triple occupancy. A $100 non-refundable deposit will reserve hold a spot. ESL class schedule change The Glen Rock Library has scheduled temporary changes to its two ESL classes. The Monday, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. ESL class will resume on Monday, June 8. The Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon class will resume on Saturday, June 6. If students want to continue to meet at these times without an instructor, they are invited to do so in the same meeting room at the same times. The Glen Rock Public Library is located at 315 Rock Road. Movie matinees offered Area residents are invited to movies at the Glen Rock Library every Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. Feel free to bring snacks. The programs are free and registration is not required. Upcoming films include: on June 4, “Oliver Twist,” a Roman Polanski film; on June 11, “The Philadelphia Story,” starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart, and Ruth Hussey; on June 18, “Dial M for Murder,” an Alfred Hitchcock classic starring Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, and Robert Cummings; and on June 25, “Bringing up Baby,” starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Charlie Ruggles. For more information call (201) 670-3970. Library offers reusable tote bags The Glen Rock Public Library is offering reusable library tote bags at the circulation desk for $2 each. Patrons can now protect borrowed items from snow and rain with reusable library totes. The library is joining the Green Up Glen Rock movement by making these bags available to patrons. The library has long been promoting recycling by allowing patrons to reuse books, recorded books, music, and videos. Some items have been borrowed more than 100 times. They are now expanding the green effort by allowing patrons to recycle by using library totes. The library will no longer supply plastic bags. Reusable totes will be the only option. Tote bag sales are self-supporting. The Glen Rock Public Library is located at 315 Rock Road. Senior services available Glen Rock senior and/or handicapped residents living alone, who are not capable of carrying their recyclables to the curb for pick-up, can now get help. The DPW will provide them with two covered containers, one for cans and plastic bottles and one for paper and cardboard. On collection days, see borough calendar, the DPW will do a special pick-up from the rear yard and return the containers to their location. Glen Rock maintains a roster of free or discount-priced activities for senior citizens, including bus rides to scheduled shopping trips on the commuter bus, and discount ticket books for taxicab rides. The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee meetings are a focal point where seniors can express their concerns, which are then brought before the Glen Rock Borough Council by Committee Chair Doris Ciaramella. Ciaramella regularly attends the night meeting of the council and advocates senior programs, causes and interests. �� Resin ��
