West Side Presbyterian Church to install senior pastor
West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood will mark the installation of its new senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Gareth Icenogle, with a weekend of special events scheduled for June 6 and 7. All events are open to the public. Dr. Icenogle is the seventh senior pastor/ head of staff in the church’s 97-year history. He was previously senior pastor of the National Presbyterian Church of Washington, D.C. A native of Southern California, Dr. Icenogle obtained his ministry degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He also holds music degrees (voice and composition) from the University of California, Riverside, and California State University of Los Angeles. Highlights of the installation weekend will include an appearance by the Rev. Dr. Ron White, Jr., the distinguished scholar on Abraham Lincoln and longtime friend of Dr. Icenogle, who will be on hand for a breakfast seminar and book-signing of his best-seller, “A. Lincoln: A Biography,” on June 6 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dr. White will discuss Lincoln’s faith at a breakfast seminar and book signing featuring his New York Times best-sellers “A. Lincoln: A Biography,” “The Eloquent President,” and “Lincoln’s Greatest Speech.” The seminar will be held in the chapel and will include a continental breakfast. Books will be available for purchase at the seminar. A donation of $10 will cover the cost of breakfast; students will be admitted free of charge. To reserve a place, leave a message at (201) 652-1966, extension 28, or email Seminar@westside.org, giving name, phone number and number of persons attending. On Sunday, Dr. White will preach on leadership at the 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services. He will join The Presbytery of the Palisades in a Worship Service of Installation for Dr. Icenogle at 4 p.m. A reception will be held in the dining room following this service. West Side Presbyterian Church is located at Varian Fry Way, 6 South Monroe Street, in Ridgewood. Free parking is available in the lot directly across the street from the entrance to the sanctuary. Tournament volunteers sought
The Ridgewood Education Foundation invites area residents to spend time with golf’s top players. Watch the PGA Tour’s top players from “inside the ropes” when they come to play in the first leg of the FedExCup Playoffs, held at the new exclusive Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, Aug. 25 through 30. REF is a charity partner of the PGA Tour for this event, and the organization is now seeking volunteers to staff this year’s Barclays tournament. REF needs many people to staff this event, especially because member donations are way down this year. The money donated by the PGA Tour last year funded classroom grants and arts fund grants. Because of the PGA Tour’s generosity, the Arts Fund was able to buy musical instruments for both middle schools, and sophisticated photography equipment for the high school. The classroom grant program, funded 12 projects in seven schools this school year. The Barclays offers many types of jobs, including transportation, driving players and VIP’s in new cars; ambassadors at the gate; and many on-course assignments including marshals, walking scorers, and SHOTLINK. For more information about the jobs at the tournament and a volunteer application, visit the REF website, www. ridgewoodedfoundation.org, and click on the “volunteer opportunities” navigation button or visit www.thebarclaysgolf.com to register online. The mission of the Ridgewood Education Foundation is to enhance the quality of education in the Ridgewood Public Schools. Since 1989, the foundation has awarded more than $425,000 in grants for special projects created by forward thinking teachers, parents, students, and alumni. The group is able to do this thanks to the generous support of members and supporters. The Foundation receives no government funding and is solely supported by its members. The Ridgewood Education Foundation is an IRS 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation. All contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Visit ridgewoodedfoundation.org.
