Volunteer appointments approved by village council
by John Koster The Ridgewood Village Council has appointed a number of volunteers to municipal boards responsible for the library, conservation, human relations, and the beautification of Ridgewood. James Mazzo, Jayne Schroeder, and Arlene Sarappo were appointed to the library board for five-year terms. One-year appointments to the Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Committee went to Ralph Currey, William Gilsenan, Ellie Gruber, and Frank Schott. Charles Nalbantian was appointed as Class IV member of the planning board, Edward Seavers as a member of the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board, Robert Lasky as a member of the Sports Council, and Timothy Cronin as director of parks and recreation. Jame Morales, Frank Gillen, and Kathleen Marshall were appointed to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board for three-year terms. Project Pride appointments for two-year terms included Gary Cirillo as chairman, Alyssa Becker, Tonia Cohen, Barbara D’Amato, Donna Dorsey, Mary Ellen Gainey, Debbie Higgins, Barbara Hyslop, Maribeth Lane, Mary Ann Sage, Ann Schott, Summer Neborsky, Kelsey Cirillo, Katherine Cirillo, Tara Cirillo, Peter Kandel, Jill Kandel, and Tim Holt. Mayor David Pfund of Ridgewood and Ridgewood Police Chief John LiPuma and Mayor John van Keuren of Glen Rock and Glen Rock Police Chief Steve Cherry, were also appointed to the Community Relations Advisory Board for a one-year term along with a number of Ridgewood and Glen Rock residents: Helen Aslanides, Paulette Perry,
Jean Dorsey, Geoff Scowcroft, Roann Rubin, Sid Dawson, Fay Reid, Susan Donnelly, Al Blake, Mahmoud Hamza, Nadeem Dawson, Janet Chambers, Helen Lindsay, Avtar Singh, Pam Scarpa, Carol Martin, Avon Morgan, Alice Newton, Simon Stoffell, Barbara Brown, Medha Kirtane, Amy Plasencia, Barbara Goldberg, The Reverend Thomas Johnson, Sean McCooe, Oliver Newton, Sidney Smith, The Reverend Jan Phillips-Singer, Beatriz Pinzou-Jordan, and Andrew Brown. Dayle Goddard was appointed to the Ridgewood Local Assistance Board for a one-year term and Anne Oros was re-appointed for a four-year term.
The Ridgewood Village Council has adopted a pay scale for paid firefighters for 2009 through 1212 based on rank, date of hire, and professional proficiency. Firefighters who were hired before Jan. 1, 2000 and have attained the rating of Firefighter III start at $42,480 in 2009 and rise to $48,553 by 2012 in Step 1. Firefighters who have not achieved Firefighter III, and were hired after Jan. 1, 2000, start at $41,455 in 2009 and progress to $47,382 by 2012 in Step 1. Firefighters who have progressed through seven steps will receive $96,114 if they have attained the rank of Firefighter III in 2009 and will receive $109,856 in 2012. The Step 1 pay for a fire inspector engineer will progress from $97,876 in 2009 to $111,870. Pay for a firefighter/inspector will increase from $99,888 in 2009 to $114,170. (continued on page 7)
