Glen Rock January 21, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 ‘Have a Heart, Help the Hungry’ comes to borough The Glen Rock Women in Community Service will hold its “Have a Heart, Help the Hungry” food drive on Feb. 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kilroy’s on Rock Road. The drive will benefit individuals and families registered with the Center for Food Action in Mahwah, Emmanuel Cancer Foundation in Midland Park, and the Teaneck Armory. Jim James of the Center for Food Action explained, “Our purpose is to feed the hungry and help individuals and families with food, utility, and rent to prevent hunger and homelessness of families and individuals in Bergen County.” David Johnson of Emmanuel Cancer Foundation added, “The objective (of ECF) is to help preserve the family through the crisis that occurs when a child is diagnosed with cancer. We do this with a variety of free services, which include counseling, food delivery, clothing, and household items such as air conditioners, heaters, dishware, and bedding.” Items are donated by the community. The ECF is not a government organization, but it operates statewide. The organization is 99 percent run by volunteers. In the last few months, ECF’s caseload has nearly doubled, as more families have difficulty facing the financial and emotional challenges of caring for a child with cancer. ECF acts as an advocate for the family and helps provide assistance with counseling and insurance issues such as accessing programs such as Medicaid, Medicare and Social Service Disability and community grants. This year, WICS is offering an option to those who cannot attend the food drive. Those who wish to send in a financial contribution may do so, and WICS volunteers will purchase the items needed by ECF, CFA, and the Teaneck Armory. Financial contributions may be sent to: Glen Rock Women in Community Service, P.O. Box 921, Glen Rock, NJ 07452. Coleman fundraiser sponsors sought The Clara E.
