Participants will learn about the process of cartooning and animation while developing their imaginations. “Cartoon Creations,” for grades one through five, will be held on Thursdays at The Stable, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., beginning Jan. 14. The cost for the six-week session is $120 and includes all non-toxic Crayola materials. All students will receive their own drawing kit with a sketch pad and drawing tools. YMCA offers Holiday Vacation Camp The Ridgewood YMCA is offering a Holiday Vacation Camp Dec. 28 through 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program is a day care alternative for the December school break. The camp is open to all area children in kindergarten through fifth grade; Y membership is not required. Registration is on a daily basis, and each day includes swimming, games, and CATCH Kids Club, a physical activity education program. The program will include activities with a daily theme. The Ridgewood Y is a notfor-profit, community service organization, with financial assistance available for families in need. Winter enrichment classes planned Registration is underway for the winter session of after school programs offered by the Ridgewood Recreation Division. All classes will be held at The Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue. Explore Science will be offered to students in kindergarten through grade three on Mondays, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., beginning Jan. 11. Students will experiment with physics and chemistry. Students will make play dough, a lava lamp, and a helicopter, and will participate in a pulley competition. The cost is $75 for five classes; this fee includes all materials. Acrylic Painting for students in grades two through five will meet on Tuesdays, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Jan. 12. Participants will receive individual attention and will be provided with goals and objectives to help them find their personal approach to painting. The class is $54 for six classes; materials are additional. A list will be provided at registration. Art Education will be offered to students in kindergarten through grade five on Wednesdays, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., beginning Jan. 13. Students will learn to recognize various artists and their works. Presentations include the history of art, Impressionism, and more. Students work with pastels, markers, watercolors, and other media. The cost is $72 for the six classes and includes all materials. Drawing for student sin grades two to five will be offered on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., beginning Jan. 13. Students will work at their own level using pencils and pastels. The cost is $54 for six classes. Materials are additional, and a list will be provided at registration. The Aviation Club for children in kindergarten through grade five will meet on Fridays, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., beginning Jan. 8. Participants will gain knowledge of the fascinating world of aviation; learn how to read and evaluate construction plans and use various hobby tools as they create and operate a variety of air models. The class is $120 for six sessions and includes all materials. Indoor tennis available Registration for indoor tennis lessons for students in kindergarten through first grade is currently open. This introductory program will cover the fundamentals of tennis, hand/eye coordination, change of direction, proper stance, and techniques. All classes will be instructed by professional staff in small groups with a non-competitive atmosphere. Instruction will be offered Saturday mornings from Jan. 9 through Feb. 6. Feb. 13 will be a makeup date, if needed. Each class is 45 minutes in duration. The following sessions are available: 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., 10:15 to 11 a.m., 11 to 11:45 a.m., and 11:45 to noon. All classes will be held indoors at Willard School, 601 Morningside Road. The fee is $75 per participant. Student memberships available The Bolger Fitness Center, a program of the Ridgewood YMCA and the YWCA of Bergen County, is offering a special student membership for full-time students age 16 and older. A student membership of $65 includes access to everything at the gym from cardio and strength training equipment and free weights to lap swimming and weekly exercise classes including group spinning. Student memberships are good through Jan. 31, 2010 and make a great gift for college students who are home for winter break. The Bolger Fitness Center also has short-term membership options.
