Letters to the Editor
(continued from page 16) all the people lining up to cross over to the complex. See all the people with smiles on their faces after coming out from a joyful experience. Not! Graydon is cooked -- toast, and Ridgewood could build a $20 million swimming exposition stadium and several Olympic size swimming pools. No matter, they will all be considered polluted, unsafe, and a hazard to your health. Misinformation killed the health care bill and misinformation will kill Graydon. After going to Graydon Pool every summer for my 35 years in Ridgewood, I have never gone in the water with the feeling that it is polluted. The water has never caused me to become ill. But you can’t stop a good negative assessment, nor can you put lipstick on a pig and make it beautiful. The only answer is to close Graydon, fill it in, and build a parking lot for banks, liquor stores, and more restaurants. Don’t forget those parking meters. When I moved to Ridgewood the Brass Lamp, Esposito’s, and the Wilsey Pub were it. Now, with 70-odd more restaurants added, parking a mess, and the village idiots who just love to spend the taxpayers’ money frivolously, the village has turned into a Coney Island with a gilded Village Hall. They call this a village? They should rename it the Village of Xanadu. Mel Freedenberg Ridgewood Dear Editor: New signs have just been posted at Graydon saying it will be closed for five days from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 and then re-open for the Labor Day weekend. I strongly object to our swimming facility being closed at the height of this summer season. We all pay high taxes and deserve better. So many of us have enjoyed swimming over the years, adults and children alike. Graydon should, at the very least, remain open from 3 to 7:30 p.m. so working people and school children can continue to enjoy this lovely facility until Labor Day as all other municipal pools stay open. This is an amenity for the citizens of Ridgewood who appreciate what we have and should have nothing to do with making a profit. Soon enough Graydon will be closed to all. We urge the decision makers to reconsider this unusual move. Jolene Murphy Ridgewood
