Thomas Scholarship Fund receives boost from authors
The Lillian and Stiles Thomas Scholarship Fund will receive a boost from local authors Jim Wright of Allendale and Jerry Barrack of Ridgewood. The two authors will donate their future proceeds from two of their popular Celery Farm children’s books, “Icky the Hungry Heron” and “Swan Babies” to the fund. The Lillian and Stiles Thomas Scholarship Fund, named for Allendale’s environmental champions, is awarded each year to a deserving Northern Highlands High School graduating senior. “It’s a great scholarship, and Jim and I just wanted to do what we can to help,” said Barrack, who has been photographing nature at the Celery Farm Natural Area in Allendale for almost two decades. “We can’t thank these four stores enough for helping out.” Barrack was referring to Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery, (201) 327-3156; Bookends, (201) 445-0726; Wild Bird Emporium, (201) 444-1043; and Wild Birds Unlimited, (201) 599-0099, all of which carry the Barrack/Wright books. Both books feature Barrack’s Celery Farm color photography and both are designed to make youngsters more aware of the natural world around them. The books sell for $12.95 each, and Wright and Barrack can inscribe them by request. “Icky” is about pursuing one’s dreams. “Swan Babies” is a great baby shower gift or birthday gift. To order a copy (and request an inscription) of either book, contact any of the four stores. “If you’d just like to make a donation to the scholarship fund, you can do that as well,” added Barrack. Make checks payable to the Fyke Nature Association with a note in the memo section that states “Scholarship Fund.” Please mail donations to P.O. Box 141, Ramsey, NJ 07446.
