April 29, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 13 Glen Rock Roundup Glen Rock Jewish Center sets events The Glen Rock Jewish Center will host a rock concert with performances by two local bands led by Glen Rock middle and high school students. “Crossfire” features Matt Roy, and “Lost in Translation” features Dylan Rocke. The concert will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 9 to 11 p.m. The night will also include dancing to rock tune favorites, snacks, desserts, and soft drinks. This event is open to people of all ages. Gold Circle seating for teens and tweens is $5 per person. Geritol seating for everyone else $7.50 per person. Reservations are required as seating is limited. The GRJC Nursery School will hold a Garage Sale on Sunday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will feature everything from children’s toys and games to books and household items. Comedy Night, featuring three top shelf comedians, has been set for Saturday, May 9 from 8:45 to 11:30 p.m. The night will also include an auction of goods and services. Coffee and desserts will be served. Bring your own kosher beverages. The cost is $36 per person in advance; $40 at the door. Group reservations (up to 12 at one table) will be accepted. Rabbi Tow and Shir Michael will build up spirit for Shabbat on Friday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. with a guitar led sing-along. This will be followed by Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’riv without instruments at 7:30 p.m. The Glen Rock Jewish Center is marching in the Israel Day parade in New York City to celebrate Tel Aviv at 100 on Sunday, May 31. The group will reconvene on Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Monday afternoon ESL group continues to meet at the Glen Rock Library from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The library is located at 315 Rock Road. Library news Knitters have been congregating at all hours of the day and night at the Glen Rock Library. People just whip out their projects, (crochet too) and attract other people to discuss projects, yarn and yarn sources. Formal instruction and help with projects with experienced knitters are held Every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. and every Wednesday night from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Take advantage of the company, experience, be stimulated to try a new project. Beginners welcome. English as a Second Language courses are growing strong and enthusiastically at the Glen Rock Library. The schedules have been changed. ESL Saturday course is from 10 a.m. to noon. The ESL Tuesday course has been moved to Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. There will be no ESL course on Tuesdays. The Glen Rock Library is located at 315 Rock Road. ‘Now Showing’ releases April lineup Everyone is invited to view movies on Thursday afternoons at the Glen Rock Library. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, “Now Showing” meets at 2 p.m. Vito Chiricco is hosting and producing the program. “Oldies but Good- ies” will be on screen for the month of April. “On Thursday, April 30, the movie will be “Arsenic and Old Lace” (1944), directed by Frank Capra. This film stars Cary Grant, Josephine Hull, Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, Priscilla Lane, Jack Carson, and James Gleason. For the clan known as Brewster, insanity runs in the family. Two sweet old aunts take it upon themselves to poison lonely old men. Their nephew Mortimer has just been married, and is trying to negotiate his way around the shenanigans of the house, while trying to keep his new bride from fleeing. Shady brother John returns from a world adventure involving using corpses to change his appearance to elude capture.
