Glen Rock
The Glen Rock Senior Citizen Advisory Committee is compiling a list of senior citizens who reside in Glen Rock. The committee will use the list to keep the senior constituency updated with current issues. Anyone who is currently a member of the Saint Catharine’s AMPs, the Glen Rock Senior Club, the Fifty Plus Club of the Glen Rock Jewish Center, the Activities Club of Glen Rock, or anyone residing in Glen Courts, does not need to register for the list. Any other Glen Rock senior, age 62 or older, who wishes to receive information can register at the Glen Rock Municipal Office or at the Glen Rock Library. the curb for pick-up, can now get help. The DPW will provide them with two covered containers, one for cans and plastic bottles and one for paper and cardboard. On collection days, see borough calendar, the DPW will do a special pick-up from the rear yard and return the containers to their location. Residents who might be interested in this service should contact Paula Fleming at borough hall at (201) 6703956 for an application. For those seniors in need of home delivery of books and other library materials contact Emily Haberman at (201) 670-3070. Glen Rock maintains a roster of free or discount-priced activities for senior citizens, including bus rides to scheduled shopping trips on the commuter bus, and discount
ticket books for taxicab rides. The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee meetings are a focal point where seniors can express their concerns, which are then brought before the Glen Rock Borough Council by Committee Chair Doris Ciaramella. Ciaramella regularly attends the night meeting of the council and advocates senior programs, causes and interests.
Glen Rock incumbent Council Members Byron Arnao and Joan Orseck have filed for the June 2 primary election. They will run uncontested, and will not face challengers in the November general election, unless Independent candidates file by the June deadline, or unless a write-in candidate surfaces. Arnao, a computer and electronics consultant and Orseck, a registered nurse and nursing instructor, were elected as Democrats during a contested election three years ago. The council at one point was balanced between three Republicans and three Democrats, with Republican mayor John van Keuren. The current council includes four Republican, and two Democrats.
