The 23rd annual Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service, organized by the Ridgewood Inter-Religious Fellowship, will take place at Temple Israel and JCC, 475 Grove Street in Ridgewood on Sunday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. This year’s theme, “We Shall Never Forget: Memory of Genocide Must Lead to Positive Action,” will be reflected in the presentation of guest speaker and Temple Israel member Dr. Will Recant. Dr. Recant is assistant executive vice president of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. His latest project has been bringing into reality the vision of a special school for the many orphan children survivors of the Rwandan genocide. The Agahozo Shalom Youth Village aims to create a safe and structured residential community that will be a place of hope where traumatized youth can “dry their tears” (Agahozo), “live in peace” (Shalom), and become positive citizens in the rebuilding of their country. ASYV is modeled after the Yemin Orde Youth Village that was founded in Israel in 1953 as a home for orphans of the Holocaust and continues to receive orphaned
