The Village of Ridgewood’s Earth Day celebration is slated for Sunday, April 19 between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. The theme for this special event is: “The world is in your hands – go green. Let’s make sustainable life choices!” Planning is ongoing through the efforts of REAC, the Ridgewood Environmental Advisory Committee. Programs scheduled for the day include: noon, Tree Planting/Dedication, Project Pride Committee; noon to 3 p.m., Shred Day at Earth Day (bring your documents to destroy); 12:15 p.m., Recycling Initiative—Give Me Five/Whole Foods Market Green Team; 12:45 p.m., Composting Workshop/Whole Foods Market Green Team; 1 p.m., Be Green by Driving Smart/Smart Center of Englewood; 1:15 p.m., Children’s’ Story Time/Ridgewood Library; 1:30 p.m., Home Energy Savings/Ed Schwartz, Green Living Solutions; 2 p.m., Earthwater Global; 2 p.m., Children’s’ Story Time/ Ridgewood Library; and 2:30 p.m., Sustainable Landscaping and Concept and Design/R & S Landscaping. During this event, sponsors, vendors, and other supporters of this green initiative will host a Green Market where today’s green products, services, and educational aspects will be shared in an outdoor setting. Residents are welcome to spend time perusing each exhibit. Music masters
Folk rock musical entertainment will be provided by Peter Spink. A favorite musician within the community, Spink’s contemporary folk music delights listeners of all ages. Refreshments will be provided by the Whole Foods Market of Ridgewood, which is also sponsoring two programs entitled “Recycling Initiative – What are #5s?” and “Composting Your Kitchen Waste.” For more information, visit the REAC website at www. ridgewoodreac.com.
Benjamin Franklin Middle School had ten students accepted into Junior Region musical groups. The students are: BandJaehyun Baek, Kenny Song and Austin Kim. Orchestra – Jena Yang, Emily Chun, Danny Ku, Stephen Feld and Gregory Maslak. Chorus – Grace Gil and Emily Shovlin. Brian Brown and Jason Curcio are the band directors, Carol Sharar directs the orchestra and Fran Kubian directs the chorus. Standing: Jaehyun Baek, Emily Chun, Grace Gil and Stephen Feld. Sitting: Jena Yang, Austin Kim, Kenny Song and Danny Ku.
