Grace United celebrates Holy Week Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff will host a live reenactment of the Last Supper in the sanctuary at 8 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, April 9. Also planned is a special Maundy Thursday communion in the chapel at noon. Visitors are welcome. Services for Easter Sunday, April 12, will be at 9 and 11 a.m. Trumpeters will be featured along with the Grace Church Senior Choir under the direction of Alan F. Newman, organist and music director. The Easter music consists of anthems, “Ring Ye Bells of Easter Morning” by Don Besig, The Hallelujah Chorus from George F. Handel’s “Messiah” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns” arranged by Noble Cain and featuring the Senior and Youth choirs. The final anthem to be performed is “He Is Alive” by Beryl Red, which leads triumphantly into the Easter hymn, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.” Grace United Methodist Church holds two worship services every Sunday, at 9 and 11 a.m., with Church School classes from cribs through grade five during both services. A Family Hour at 10 a.m. features Church School classes from grade six through adults and choirs and other activities for the younger children. Child care is provided. An adult Bible class is held every Sunday at 10 a.m. The senior pastor is Dr. David Wiley, and Rev. Rosanna Suh is the associate pastor. Visitors are welcome. Holy Week celebration at Nativity The Church of the Nativity in Midland Park will celebrate Holy Week with several services. On Saturday, April 4 there will be the blessing and distribution of palms with the procession starting at 4:50 p.m. at the chapel. Eucharistic liturgies for Palm Sunday will be held at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and noon. Holy Thursday, April 9 will start with morning prayer at 8:30 in the chapel. The Feast of the Lord’s Supper will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. in Chapel. On Good Friday, April 10, morning prayers in the chapel will be at 8:30 a.m. Family Stations of the Cross, held outside if weather permits, will begin at noon. The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Death is at 3 p.m. and the Living Stations of the Cross will be at 7:30 p.m. in the church. On Holy Saturday, April 11, there will be morning prayers at 8:30 a.m. The Easter Vigil Mass will be held at 8:15 p.m. with the Blessing of New Fire and Baptismal Water. There will not be a 5 p.m. mass on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday (April 12) liturgies will be at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and noon. Church of the Nativity is located at 315 Prospect Street in Midland Park. Abundant Life sets special services Holy Week will be celebrated at Abundant Life Reformed Church in Wyckoff with special services. On Palm Sunday, April 5, there will be a 10:30 a.m. service featuring the Adult and Children’s choirs. There will be a 7:30 p.m. Communion service featuring the Adult Choir. This service will include the First Reformed Church of Hawthorne. On Easter Sunday, April 12, the Adult and Children’s choirs and the Handbell Choir will provide music at the 10:30 a.m. service. Abundant Life Reformed Church is located at 475 Lafayette Avenue in Wyckoff. Cedar Hill celebrates season Cedar Hill Church in Wyckoff will have Palm Sunday, April 5, services at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Special music will be provided by the Kingdom Kids Choir and the Cedar Hill Choir Cantata, directed by Sharon Augsburger, will perform “Look to The Lamb.” On Good Friday, April 10, there will be a Communion Service at 7:30 p.m. Special music will be provided by L. Vandenberr, Men’s Praise, and Sounds of Celebration Bell Choir. There will also be a dramatic presentation, entitled “Witness to the Crucifixion.” The Cedar Hill Choir and Sounds of Celebration Choir will perform at the Easter Sunday, April 12, service at 10:30 a.m.

Passover Seder scheduled The community is invited to celebrate the second night of Passover, April 9, at 6 p.m., at the Glen Rock Jewish Center. The Seder will be led by Rabbi Neil Tow. The menu for the evening will include gefilte fish, chopped liver, roast chicken, meatballs, side dishes, vegetables, dessert, fruit, and more. A vegetarian dinner is available upon request. There will be Kiddush wine and grape juice. Participants may bring their own beverages, which must be kosher for Passover. The cost is $42 for adults age 21 and up, $38 for young adults (13 to 20); $30 for children (seven to 12); and $20 for children (six and under). Holy Week services at Old Paramus Church Holy Week services at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Church will be expanded, and Pastor Tom Marsden extends a warm welcome to the community to join in the solemnity and joy of these events. A “Hosanna Day” Family Service at 10 a.m. on Palm Sunday, April 5, will include distribution of palms. The Maundy Thurs-
day service on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. will include a living tableau entitled “At the Last Supper” with hand washing and Holy Communion. There will be two services on Good Friday, April 10. At noon, come for meditations on “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” At 7:30 p.m., the church will host Tenebrae: A Service of Darkness, with a Chancel Choir Cantata. On April 12 at 10 a.m., the Easter Sunday service will be a celebration of Christ’s Resurrection, with a sermon by the pastor and special music featuring the choir, organ, and brass. Unitarian Society hosts film series On Friday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood Peace and Justice Committee’s Film series begins with Israeli filmmaker Eran Kolirin’s debut feature, “The Band’s Visit.” This film explores the cultural divide that plagues the Middle East. The second film in this series, “A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash,” a 90-minute documentary on the state of the world and its dependence on oil, will be shown Sunday, May 3 at 6:30 at p.m. Refreshments will be available.
