Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. on Oct.6. The meeting will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland Elementary School. Community Thrift Shop offers new hours The Community Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Midland Park Shopping Center, has its fall season underway. The shop features nearly new brand name clothing, jewelry, bric-a-brac, toys, books, decorations, and more. Fall shopping hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Receiving is only on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first Saturday of the month is open for receiving and shopping. Due to space considerations, no coat donations can be accepted until the end of October. Association sets meeting The Midland Park Baseball Association will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Highland School Media Center/Library. Spirit Week underway The Midland Park High School Athletic Booster Association’s Spirit Week will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 2. Spirit Week events are highlighted by many surprises. This year, commemorative “Pack-the-House Panther Pride” Tshirts will be given out to the first 20 paid student attendees at the girls’ volleyball match on Friday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. Refreshments are available for purchase. The Spirit Week schedule is: Sept. 29, Boys’ Varsity Soccer vs. Garfield at 7 p.m. on the Midland Park High School football field; Sept. 30, Girls’ Varsity Soccer vs. Mary Help of Christians at 7 p.m. on the Midland Park football field; Friday, Oct. 2, Girls’ Volleyball vs. Lodi, for “Pack the House Night” at 4 p.m. in the Midland Park High School gym and the Waldwick/Midland Park Varsity Football vs. Elmwood Park at 7 p.m. at Waldwick High Football Field. Midland Park High School students will participate in a pep rally during school hours on Friday, Oct. 2. (Please note: The pep rally is not open to the public.) Music in the Park competition set The Midland Park High School Marching Band and the Midland Park High School Performing Arts Parents (PAPS) will host the twelfth annual marching band competition, “Music in the Park XII,” on Sunday, Oct. 11. The event begins at 1 p.m. on the high school athletic field. The marching bands scheduled to perform are Ridgewood High School, Paramus High School, Westwood High School, Elmwood Park High School, Ramapo High School, Indian Hills High School, Hackensack High School, Lakeland Regional High School, Hopatcong High School, Copaigue High School, and Midland Park High School. There will be a special guest performance by the Hawthorne Caballeros. General admission tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and $5 for Midland Park residents with ID. Bowling, tennis and cooking classes offered Midland Park Recreation is offering a cooking class by Chef Sam for children in kindergarten through grade eight. Chef Sam will teach children basic safety rules when cooking, how to make snacks, healthy treats, and a meal for the whole family to enjoy. Classes will be held at The DePhillips Center on Dairy Street every Saturday from Oct. 31 through Nov. 21. Little Chef for kindergarteners through second graders will meet from noon to 1 p.m.; Kids Cuisine for third and fourth graders will meet from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.; and Teen Cuisine class for fifth through eighth graders will meet from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Registration fee is $30 and material fee is $15. The Fall Bowling Club, a six week program for children in grades one through eight, will meet on Mondays from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. at Holiday Lanes in Oakland. The program will run from Oct. 19 through Nov. 23. The registra- tion fee is $5; bowling costs $6 per week. The Fall Tennis Program will offer a four-week clinic for children in kindergarten through grade eight at the Dairy Street tennis courts on Saturdays, Oct. 3 through 24. Fortyfive minute sessions will be held between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $40 per child, with a $70 maximum per family. Classes are designed to make learning tennis an enjoyable experience. Support group offered Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood is offering a free 10-week support program for Midland Park residents who are separated or divorced. Each week, the group will journey through the divorce process focusing on topics such as loneliness, stress, self image, guilt, blame, anger, forgiveness, and pathways to growth. The sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. All are welcome.
