by actress Shelley Duvall, originally aired on TV from 1985 to 1987. The three-disc set contains stories of both historical and legendary characters. Duvall, who previously produced the critical and popular series “Faerie Tale Theatre,” follows that model by using name actors in live-action stories of iconic, mostly American folk heroes. The nine subjects of this release are Annie Oakley (Jamie Lee Curtis), “Casey at the Bat” (Elliott Gould, Carol Kane), Darlin’ Clementine (Shelley Duvall, Ed Asner, Michael Richards), Davy Crockett (Mac Davis, Michael McKean), John Henry (Danny Glover, Tom Hulce, Lynn Whitfield), Johnny Appleseed (Martin Short, Rob Reiner, Molly Ringwald), Pecos Bill (Steve Guttenberg, Rebecca De Mornay), Ponce De Leon (Michael York, Sally Kellerman), and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” (Ed Begley Jr., Beverly D’Angelo). “The Haunted World of El Superbeasto” (Anchor Bay Entertainment) is the bizarre animated saga of El Superbeasto (voice of Tom Papa), a former world-class masked wrestler with superhuman strength who now finds himself in the ordinary role of producer, director, and star of BeastWorld Enterprises. When he can, Beasto fights evil along with his sexy sister, Suzi X (Sheri Moon Zombie), in creepy Monsterland. Beasto faces his biggest battle when he struggles to stop the unholy marriage of foul-mouthed stripper Velvet Von Black (Rosario Dawson) and the diabolical Dr. Satan (Paul Giamatti). by Dennis Seuling The “Star Trek” TV shows and motion pictures in all their incarnations have been released and re-released often by Paramount Home Entertainment to take advantage of fans’ insatiability for this iconic sci-fi franchise. Now, going where Paramount has never gone before, the company has released a host of Blu-ray titles that trace the adventures of the assorted starship crews in dazzling high definition. Among this batch of Blu-ray releases is “Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection,” a five-disc set containing four films featuring Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Stewart heads the TV cast in their bigscreen adventures through the galaxies. The original TV shows starring William Shatner (Capt. Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock) can be seen in Blu-ray in “Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two,” a seven-disc set containing all episodes of the 1967-1968 season. Season two contains some of the show’s classic
episodes, including “Amok Time” (an emotional Spock), “Mirror, Mirror” (an evil Kirk), “The Trouble with Tribbles” (furry aliens), and “A Piece of the Action” (Kirk visits a planet with an Earth-like 1920s gangster culture). The picture quality is much improved over previous videotape and DVD releases, but the drawback is the image is in the non-widescreen TV standard of the ‘60s. The original TV cast made the jump to the big screen in several features. They can be seen in the Blu-ray releases of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” co-starring Ricardo Montalban as a former adversary of Kirk who escapes from a 15-year exile to exact revenge on him; “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home,” an ecologically based tale in which Kirk and Spock must return to 20th century Earth to recover two humpback whales, the key to saving Earth from a destructive space probe; and “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” in which Kirk and Spock are accused of attacking a Klingon space ship and must stand trial for murder. “Tall Tales & Legends” (E1 Entertainment), produced
