At each placesetting there will be an advertisement placemat. Local businesses are invited to advertise their business on the placemat. All proceeds will be used for the Rotary’s charitable efforts. The cost of an advertisement is $35. Deadline for sponsorship is Oct. 1. The Rotary expects to sell 400 tickets to this charitable event. Prostate Cancer Support Group to meet LifeLines, a supportive and informative resource for prostate cancer patients and their partners in Northern Bergen County, will meet Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. The group was formed by prostate cancer patients to share information and experience about available treatment and service resources. Bergen Catholic plans Open House Bergen Catholic High School invites all boys and their parents to an Open House on Sunday, Sept. 27 at the school located at 1040 Oradell Avenue in Oradell. There will be continuous presentations, with student-guided tours to follow from 1 to 3 p.m. An evening Open House is planned for Thursday, Oct. 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. Students interested are welcome to visit classes daily. Benefit event includes ‘Real Housewives’ Area women are invited to a “Girls Night Out.” This Oct. 14 shopping extravaganza, featuring music, cocktails, and guests from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” will be held at the Ridgewood Woman’s Club and will benefit Prevent Child-Abuse-New Jersey. The event will feature cast members Theresa and Jacqueline among more than 40 vendors offering a selection of gifts, handbags, shoes, jewelry and other fine items from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 pre-event and $20 at the door, and will benefit New Jersey’s largest provider of child abuse prevention services. Healing Mass, bereavement support offered Saint Elizabeth RC Church in Wyckoff is offering a healing Mass on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. The Reverend Joseph Hertel, OFM, will officiate. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be administered to all who request it, and prayer teams will be available to pray for individual needs. Everyone is welcome to attend. For eight consecutive Tuesdays beginning Oct. 6, Saint Elizabeth at 700 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff will hold support groups for individuals of all faiths who have experienced a loss. The daytime group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the evening group will gather from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Both groups will meet in the Amadeus Room on the second floor of the Church’s Religious Education Building. Community Thrift Shop offers new hours The Community Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Midland Park Shopping Center, has its fall season underway. The shop features nearly new brand name clothing, jewelry, bric-a-brac, toys, books, decorations, and more. Fall shopping hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Receiving is only on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first Saturday of the month is open for receiving and shopping. Due to space considerations, no coat donations can be accepted until the end of October. Fall concert at Hawthorne Gospel Hawthorne Gospel Church’s fall concert, A New Hallelujah, will be held Sunday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. The concert, which is an encore event due to an overwhelming Hospital hosts Adopt a Pet Day On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital will help respond to the unfortunate effects that the economy has placed on pets, the innocent victims of the downturn. The hospital at 320 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood will host more than 15 shelters and rescue groups, who will participate by bringing cats and dogs that desperately need homes. The dogs and cats will fill the hospital’s parking lot, reception area, and exam rooms for the day from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. in hopes of finding permanent, loving homes for the pets. The animals were the victims of the economy, hurricanes, abandonment, abuse, and many other untold dilemmas. In many cases, this will be these pet’s last chance. Some of the groups will offer adoption the same day, and some groups will process applications to match people with pets. Last year, there were at least 65 pets adopted, and there were 300 attendees. The Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital also hopes to join forces with Pilots N Paws, a group of voluntary pilots dedicated to transporting 5000 response from its debut in the spring, is free of charge and open to everyone. Auditions for handbell choir set Jersey Jubilation, an area community handbell choir, will be holding informal auditions for ringers on Sunday, Sept 27. The choir meets bi-weekly and performs six to eight concerts a year. Experienced handbell ringers interested in joining this choir, will take part in a regular choir rehearsal from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in the choir room of the Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Street, Ridgewood. Tillsley honored at dinner The Iaoapogh Mountains District, Boy Scouts of America will honor Franklin Lakes resident Robert Tillsley with the 2009 Community Service Award at a cocktail reception and dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Buddy Walk planned The Wyckoff Family YMCA and the Northern New Jersey Down Syndrome Alliance are sponsoring the Fifth Annual Bergen Buddy Walk to be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the walk will begin at 11 a.m. Entry fees are: $10 adults, and $25 for families. The day will include the one mile Buddy Walk, familyfriendly events, music, face painting, rides, and food. Charity Golf Tournament set The Ramsey Knights of Columbus is holding its annual Charity Golf Outing on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Wallkill Golf Club, in Wallkill, New York. The $130 entry fee includes 18 holes of golf and golf cart, breakfast, lunch, dinner and pets across the country from needy areas to areas where homes are waiting. The Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital has received corporate sponsorship from companies such as Pfizer, Hills Pet Food, Novartis, Antech Diagnostics and Merial, who plan to donate free samples and time to help make the event a success. The local community is also contributing by volunteering their services, products, and donations of both money and gift items for a special fundraiser. There will be characters, toys, activities, face painting and balloons for children, and pets from all over the country who need permanent homes and loving families. “This year, we hope that neighbors who can open their hearts and their homes to a new pet will attend and help rescue a pet from a community less fortunate than ours,” said Hospital Director Dr. Dean Cerf. “Last year the response to this event made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many pets and people.
