Association sets meeting The Midland Park Baseball Association will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Highland School Media Center/Library. Spirit Week kicks off The Midland Park High School Athletic Booster Association’s Spirit Week will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 2. Spirit Week events are highlighted by many surprises. This year, commemorative “Pack-the-House Panther Pride” Tshirts will be given out to the first 20 paid student attendees at the girls’ volleyball match on Friday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. Refreshments are available for purchase. The Spirit Week schedule is: Sept. 29, Boys’ Varsity Soccer vs. Garfield at 7 p.m. on the Midland Park High School football field; Sept. 30, Girls’ Varsity Soccer vs. Mary Help of Christians at 7 p.m. on the Midland Park football field; Friday, Oct. 2, Girls’ Volleyball vs. Lodi, for “Pack the House Night” at 4 p.m. in the Midland Park High School gym and the Waldwick/Midland Park Varsity Football vs. Elmwood Park at 7 p.m. at Waldwick’s football field.

Fire department to host celebration The Midland Park Fire Department will host a townwide party in honor of its 100th anniversary on Sept. 26 from 4 to 9 p.m. The entire community and fire departments from the Mutual Aid Association are invited to the Witte Drive Firehouse from 4 to 9 p.m. The centennial celebration will include food, beverages, and live music by Bitter X. New Music Concert Series set Hope Machine will kick off The New Music Concert Series at the United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. Hope Machine started singing the songs of Woody Guthrie and added works by Pete Seeger, and traditional and original songs with messages of hope and spiritual transformation in celebration of the human spirit. The group incorporates old-time, modern, native- American, folk, rock, and more. Audience members are encouraged to sing along, dance, yell, or yodel. Members of Hope Machine include Fred Gillen Jr., Steve Kirkman, and Matt Turk. Local singer/songwriter, Robert Hill will host the show. A donation of $10 is requested. Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food item to donate to CUMAC to help feed the hungry. For more information call the church at (201) 445-3587.
Midland Park Lions Club President John Romano and his canine companion were on hand at the Community Day celebration to encourage area residents to participate in the Seeing Eye dog naming contest. Music in the Park competition set The Midland Park High School Marching Band and the Midland Park High School Performing Arts Parents (PAPS) will host the twelfth annual marching band competition, “Music in the Park XII,” on Sunday, Oct. 11. The event begins at 1 p.m. on the high school athletic field. The marching bands scheduled to perform are Ridgewood High School, Paramus High School, Westwood High School, Elmwood Park High School, Ramapo High School, Indian Hills High School, Hackensack High
