All we had to do is construct one ramp,” Executive Director/ Principal Marvin Leiken told the Midland Park Mayor and Council at its last meeting. “We’ve had a wonderful welcome. People are warm, kind, welcoming,” he added. Leiken said that he had also spoken to Midland Park will celebrate Community Day at the DePhillips Community Center, 50 Dairy Street, Sept. 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. The borough will also be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department. Games and contests are planned for a day of community spirit, family fun, and entertainment for all. The Midland Park Fire Department will be cooking hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, for which donations will be greatly appreciated. Refreshments, ice cream, desserts, and other baked goods Community Day coming up may also be purchased. Bring chairs and blankets to enjoy a spot in the sun, shaded tables and chairs will also be available. Residents are encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk to the event. Some parking will be available in front of the high school. The Dairy Street Tennis Court and the playground area parking will be reserved strictly for seniors or those needing assistance and will be accessible from Sunset Avenue only. Golf cart rides to and from the senior’s and handicapped parking lots will be available throughout the day (continued on page 23) Patricia Terraciano, Midland Park High School’s principal, and they had discussed volunteer opportunities for students as part of their community service. Leiken said that the school was to open with 24 students, each of whom is paired with an adult, one-on-one. He said, however, that up to 48 students could be accommodated in the program. Physical, occupational and speech therapy is provided to students ages seven through 12. The center also operates a facility for younger children in Fair Lawn. The Therapy Center is leasing 12 classrooms, the kitchen, the gymnasium (Ken- nedy Hall) and two sets of restrooms from the church for its Upper School. Nativity will continue to use the school facilities for CCD, sports, social events, and sacramental receptions. The 50-year-old school (previously known as the Cerebral Palsy Center on the Valley Hospital grounds in Ridgewood) is a state-certified not for profit private institution for children with multiple disabilities.
