DVDs
(continued from Restaurant page) thrillers: “Freddy and Jason,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “Snakes on a Plane.” These R-rated films include graphic violence. The first two are traditional horror films, but “Snakes” is more camp than horror. In “Snakes” a young man witnesses a brutal mob murder and FBI agent Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson) must escort him safely from Hawaii to Los Angeles to testify. In an act of self-preservation, the crime boss facing prison smuggles hundreds of poisonous snakes onto the commercial aircraft in a crate timed to release its deadly cargo halfway over the Pacific. Flynn, along with a frightened flight crew and passengers, must band together in a desperate attempt to survive. Extras include audio commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes,
and bloopers. “Fringe: The Complete First Season” (Warner Home Video), available on both DVD and Blu-ray, focuses on three unlikely colleagues: a beautiful, young and determined FBI agent (Anna Torv); a brilliant but eccentric scientist (John Noble); and his sardonic son (Joshua Jackson). These three team up to investigate a series of peculiar deaths and disasters known as “The Pattern.” The trio suspects that someone is using the real world as a laboratory. Several clues lead them to Massive Dynamic, a global corporation that may be more powerful than any one nation. The show combines elements of “The XFiles,” “Lost,” and “CSI” as it explores themes of conspiracy while creating suspense and cliffhangers along the way. Extras on this multi-disc set include numerous featurettes on the genesis of the show, a look at the making of one episode, casting, and visual effects. There are also unaired scenes, a gag reel, a production diary, and three full-length commentaries.
