Temple hosts barbeque Temple Beth Rishon will kick off the new year with its annual barbecue on Sept. 13 at 2:30 p.m. The event will include games, food, and music by the Rishon Trio featuring Gale Bindelglass, Jane Koch and Cantor Ilan Mamber with Irwin Tessler on guitar and Jimmy Cohen on percussion. Attendees will get to meet with clergy and temple members. Committee representatives will be available to welcome visitors and introduce them to temple programs. Admission is free for members. The cost for non-members is $15 per adult and $8 per child, with a maximum of $40 per family. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling the Temple at (201) 891-4466. Temple Beth Rishon is located at 585 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff. Tennis clinics offered The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department is sponsoring its Fall Tennis Learning Program for Wyckoff residents who range in age from kindergarten students through adults. The program will be directed by Tennis Dynamics under the guidance of Bill Bess. This fall, the clinic will be held on Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m. Classes will begin on Sept. 26, and will run for five consecutive Saturdays. All sessions will meet at the newly constructed Memorial Tennis Courts and will last one hour each between the hours of 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Registration will be accepted at the recreation office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning Sept. 14 through 18. Roller hockey registration set Registration for the 2008-09 Wyckoff Recreation Roller Hockey Program will be held on Monday, Sept. 28 from 7 to 8:15 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. and the entire week of Sept. 28 during business hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All registrations will be held at the Wyckoff Recreation Office. The second and third grade program will be an instructional program with practices and scrimmages on Monday nights and some weekend afternoons in December through early February. The registration fee is $50. The fourth through twelfth grade program will start with practices in mid-November, followed by games in the North Jersey Youth Roller Hockey League beginning in December through early March. Participants in this program participate in the North Jersey Youth Roller Hockey Association. Teams will be entered in the Midget Division, ages nine through 11; the Junior Division, ages 12 through 14; and the Senior Division, ages 15 through 17. The registration fee for this program is $55. Temple celebrates Rosh Hashanah Temple Beth Rishon in Wyckoff invites young families to celebrate the first day of Rosh Hashanah, Saturday Sept. 19, at a special family service. The 5 p.m. service will be followed by Tashlich. During this ceremony, bread is thrown into the water to symbolize the casting away of sins. Come to the pond on the temple property for this uplifting ritual. Please bring bread. The young family service and Tashlich are both free of charge and open to the public. Adult mini-school offered Registration is underway for the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, a project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Study Jewish history, laws, beliefs, practices, and ideas in a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere. Classes, which meet for two hours once a week for 28 weeks, will be held at Temple Beth Rishon, 585 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff, on Mondays beginning Oct. 12. Economy Shop to reopen The Wyckoff PTO Economy Shop will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 17, and will accept walk-in clients from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 7:30 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, Sept. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Economy Shop is a non-profit consignment shop staffed by volunteers from five Wyckoff School PTOs, Ramapo APTS, and Indian Hills PTSO. Fall story time registration to begin The Wyckoff Public Library is holding in-person registration for fall story times beginning Thursday, Sept. 10 in the Children’s Room. Rhyme Time for children ages 12 to 30 months and their caregivers will be held on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. on the following days: Sept. 14, 21, and 28, and Oct. 5 and 12. Toddler Tales for children ages 30 months to three years and their caregivers will be he held on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 18 and 25, and Oct. 2, 9, and 16. Storytime Fun for four’s and five’s is an independent story time for children to be held on Thursdays at either 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 24, Oct. 1, 8, and 15.
