Clothes Line Thrift Shop reopens The Clothes Line Thrift Shop in Allendale will reopen Wednesday, Sept. 9. A breakfast of bagels and coffee will be served as shoppers look through the new fall clothing. The Clothes Line Thrift Shop is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located in the Archer United Methodist Church at 37 East Allendale Avenue in Allendale. Call (201) 327-0020. Class of 1984 celebrates 25th reunion The Midland Park High School Class of 1984 will celebrate its 25th reunion on Sept. 12 at the Park Ridge Marriott. Hazardous waste pickup set Bergen County Utilities Authority will provide regionalized hazardous waste collection on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Bergen County Campgaw Reservation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The site is located at 200 Campgaw Road in Mahwah, and the pickup will include items not normally accepted for recycling including aerosol cans, antifreeze, all types of batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, photographic chemicals, solvents and thinners, thermostats, and mercury switches. Residents are urged to call the Bergen County Utilities Authority Household Hazardous Waste Hotline for further information at (201) 891-7000 extension 101. Babysitters’ class offered The Valley Hospital Center for Women, Children and Family Education is offering a babysitters’ preparation class on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This class gives caregivers the necessary information they need to safely care for a child. Topics to be presented include feeding, holding, and changing a baby; infant safety concerns; and where and how to contact the police, parents, pediatrician, poison control centers, and other emergency personnel. The fee for this two-hour course is $35. Ridgewood Singers to hold auditions The Ridgewood Singers will host a Wine and Sing open rehearsal on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. This season kick-off is a great way to get acquainted with the chorus and begin rehearsals for the winter concert. Auditions will follow. There will also be an opportunity to audition at the open rehearsal on Sept. 21. All voice parts are encouraged to audition; however there is a great need for sopranos, both first and second, and male voices. Prepared music is unnecessary. This mixed voice community chorus has been performing and practicing in Ridgewood for over 50 years. Members are various ages and backgrounds and hail from both Bergen and Passaic counties. Rehearsals are scheduled for Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Society at 113 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. Kennedy to perform Beckett David G. Kennedy, a professional actor with experience in New York City and New Jersey, will perform a oneman show of “Krapp’s Last Tape” at the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center on Center Street in Midland Park at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 16. Kennedy has performed this one-man modern classic many times. The drama features a 69-year-old failed writer who plays and reacts to a tape he made when he was a much younger man, then makes a new tape, but returns to the original tape he made about his lost love. The actor has played frequently at the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center, located at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park and is open to all area senior citizens age 60
The Ramsey Area Garden Club awarded two $500 scholarships two local college honor students. Joe Trancucci of Allendale is a junior at Rutgers studying landscape design. Chris Hartado of Fair Lawn is attending Bergen Community College studying horticulture and landscaping. The Ramsey Area Garden Club has members from nine towns and holds an annual plant sale on the second Saturday in May to promote horticulture related scholarships. At the Ramsey High School’s award assembly in June, Jessica Poracky also received a scholarship from the Ramsey Area Garden Club. Fall Art and Craft Street Fair The annual Ridgewood Fall Art and Craft Street Fair will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. on East Ridgewood Avenue. Rain date will be on Sept. 20. Sponsored by the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department and promoted by P.J. Promotions, the show will include 140 crafters and artists. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo on Walnut Avenue, a children’s area in the park, music, and a food court. Vendors will have a large selection of items available including photography, apparel, fiber, garden and children’s items, framed sports items, hand crafted purses, turned and country wood, folk art, florals, stained and fused glass, ceramics, functional pottery, American Girl doll clothing and furniture, handcrafted jewelry, quilts, hand painted slates and mailboxes, candle, soaps, and more. Garden Gallery Art Show planned Local painters, photographers, sculptors and pottery makers will display their work at a special exhibit hosted by Jacobsen Landscape Gallery located at 11 Barnstable Court in Saddle River on Sept. 12. Artist Joe Terrone of Glen Rock will be one of the exhibitors. A portion of the artists’ proceeds will be dedicated to Children’s Aid and Family Services of Paramus. Visitors will be able to watch artists paint in gardens of Jacobsen’s outdoor rooms and appreciate how closely gardening and painting are linked. Also on display will be work from the Art Center of Northern New Jersey and Plein-Air Painters of the Ridgewood Art Institute. The art show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be available. There is no charge for the event. Comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 26.
