September 2, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 15 Franklin Lakes Scribe Library hosts diabetes forum The American Diabetes Association will hold a Diabetes Forum at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Tuesday, Sept.15 at 7 p.m. Dr. Joy Johnson, a certified geriatric pharmacist, will discuss types of diabetes, risks of the disease, and other pertinent information. Two young ambassadors will speak from a personal level about the effect diabetes has had on their individual lives. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. All are welcome to attend this informative evening. The Franklin Lakes Public Library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Computer classes offered Franklin Lakes Public Library is offering basic computer classes. Beginning Computer and Internet Class, sessions I and II, will be taught on Wednesday, Sept. 16 and 23 from 11 a.m. to noon. No previous computer experience is required for this basic class. A BCCLS Website Introduction Class is offered on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to noon. Patrons must have some previous experience on the Internet in order to take this class. A Genealogy 101 class will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. This class will give information on the use of Ancestry. com and provide valuable resources for locating relatives and other pertinent genealogy facts. Republican Club hosts meeting Franklin Lakes Republican Club will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Bender Court Fire Department Headquarters. All are invited to attend. Prospective members invited to Fall Coffee The Franklin Lakes Newcomers and Neighbors Club will host its annual Fall Coffee on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at the Indian Trail Club. The Fall Coffee is an introduction to the club and the activities it offers to Franklin Lakes residents. Learn more about all the borough’s services, parks, recreation opportunities, festivals, and community events. This year, the community team is putting together two drives. Club members will be collecting diapers, formula, wipes, and baby items for the Baby Basics Program run by Children’s Aid and Family Services. The circus comes to town The Franklin Lakes Lions Club will once again be hosting the Zerbini Circus on Sunday, Sept. 20 at McBride Field on Franklin Lakes Road in Franklin Lakes. Show times are 1, 3, and 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $9 in advance and $11 the day of the circus. Children under age three will be admitted free of charge. Advanced tickets can be purchased at Cartridge World in the Franklin Crossing Shopping Center and TD Bank in the Urban Farms Shopping Center. The circus is held rain or shine under a new blue and yellow big top tent. This year’s show includes clowns, acrobats, aerialists, trapeze artists, a dog show, and an American buffalo. Board of Education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Franklin Lakes Middle School on Franklin Avenue. Meet and Greet set The Third Annual Franklin Lakes Newcomers and Neighbors Club Kindergarten Meet and Greet for all schools, will be held on Friday, Sept. 4 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pulis Avenue Recreational Field Playground. This special get-together is for children starting kindergarten in September. A familiar face on that first day of school goes a long way to calm the nerves of children and parents. Auxiliary plans events The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Welcome Back meeting on Monday, Sept. 21. The Monday, Oct. 19 meeting will feature Sue Kelly, president of The Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She will speak on the Hospital Renewal Update. Both meetings begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Franklin Lakes Library located on DeKorte Drive. Coffee will be served at these morning meetings, which are open to the public. Other upcoming events for the group are: a theater outing to New York City to see “West Side Story” on Wednesday, Sept. 23. A brunch/ pre-holiday shopping fundraiser will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club, in Franklin Lakes.
