Computer Class will be taught on Nov. 4 from 11 to noon. Basic computer experience is necessary. Participants will discover tips to use this search engine. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, a blogging class will be held. Participants will learn how to use a popular free tool to create blogs. Solid basic PC skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word, and Internet experience are necessary. The Google Earth Computer Class will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to noon. Students will learn how to locate information on this popular site. Ability to navigate from one site to another is required. Theater trip planned The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary is planning a trip to see “Billy Elliot” at the Imperial Theater in New York City on May 5, 2010. The cost for the 2 p.m. performance is $140 and includes transportation. Buses will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the Franklin Lakes Recreation Building, 1 Vichiconti Way in Franklin Lakes. Attendees may enjoy lunch on their own before the performance. Reservations must be made by Dec. 1. Brunch and Boutique fundraiser set The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a “Pre-Holiday Brunch & Boutique Shopping Fundraiser Extravaganza” on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road in Franklin Lakes. Boutique shopping will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and brunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. More than 20 vendors will be selling clothing, upscale jewelry and accessories, holiday ornaments, beauty items, baby items, home accessories, and more. Tickets are $30. Proceeds go to Valley Hospital to support the 64-slice CT scanner, expand the inpatient pediatric unit, improve the women’s health unit and provide program support for the Butterflies Pediatric Hospice Program of Valley Home Care. Wine Tasting set The Franklin Lakes Lions Club will host a Wine Tasting on Friday, Oct. 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club on Franklin Lake Road in Frankin Lakes. The cost of $85 per person includes a variety of wines from the Wine Seller of Ridgewood, appetizers, hot buffet, a pasta station, dessert, and coffee. Proceeds from this event will go to charities supported by the Lions Club, including Oasis, Eva’s Village, Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps, Saint Joseph’s School for the Blind, and The Seeing Eye dog program. Entries sought for photo contest The Franklin Lakes Public Library is hosting its second annual “A Day in the Life of Franklin Lakes” photo contest. The contest is open to all Franklin Lakes residents and people who work in Franklin Lakes. Photos should capture what is loved and treasured in Franklin Lakes. Entries may be mailed or dropped off at the library or e-mailed with the entry form to: frlkphoto@gmail. com. Photos will be compiled into a photo book to be published in April 2010. Prizes will be awarded to the best in juniors, young adult, adult, and best “digitally modified” photos. Entry forms are available at the library. All entries must be received by Nov. 25. VFW seeks names of servicemen As part of a continuing effort to send letters and packages of support, Franklin Lakes VFW Post 5702 is seeking the names of troops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The VFW is asking the public to provide them with the mailing addresses of anyone from Oakland or Franklin Lakes currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan so they can add them to their support effort.
