The New Jersey Board of Nursing has announced its approval for Eastwick College in Ramsey to offer a registered nursing associate degree program. Eastwick College, which offers programs for a variety of medical careers, is the first private proprietary college in the state to receive this prestigious approval, making the institution a key source for anyone studying to become a registered nurse. The college is now accepting applications for the LPN to RN Bridge program, and many requests are anticipated due to the demand for registered nurses. Registered nurses, or RNs, will dominate the job market in coming years. Registered nursing is projected to be among the 10 top occupations in the United States to have the largest number of new jobs, with demand for nurses exceeding their supply by 2010. “In sum, (registered) nurses will be able to pick and choose the paths of their careers,” reports the U.S. News, which ranked registered nursing among the top five best jobs. “It’s impossible to overstate the enormous amount of opportunity that exists for RNs with degrees in the coming years,” explained Dr. Josephine Huisking, corporate director of nursing at Eastwick College. “As the population ages and a large number of nurses retire, RNs will be very desirable in the medical field. Our registered nurse graduates should have significant job security considering this coming shortage.” RNs perform various activities: They may observe, assess, and record patients’ symptoms, provide assistance to physicians and other health care providers during examinations and treatments, and administer medications. In hospitals, RNs often work as staff nurses, providing care at the bedside and managing patients’ medical needs. In some cases, RNs in hospitals supervise licensed practical nurses and aides. The new registered nursing degree program follows a long history of medical education and training at Eastwick College and the HoHoKus Schools campuses, both of which

Eastwick. “This new
