Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • October 14, 2009 Wyckoff Ex-wife arrested on unusual burglary charges by John Koster A 42-year-old Wyckoff woman and her friend from New York City have been charged with burglary and theft after they allegedly entered the township woman’s ex-husband’s house illegally, began to remove the deceased man’s property, and were in the process of having the locks changed. The former owner of the house on Huntington Court, was 53 years old when he was found dead in the house on Sept. 29. The man had divorced his wife and named his brother as his next-of-kin. When the brother and his wife entered the house on Sept. 30 after flying in from California to arrange the funeral and settle the estate, they saw the man’s former wife driving away and then found two men they did not recognize inside the house and called the police. Wyckoff Patrolman William Plisich and Patrolman Terry Murphy responded to the call and found two men in the deceased owner’s house, now officially owned by the brother. One of the men was a hired locksmith who was brought in to change the locks and the other was a New York City resident and friend of the deceased man’s exwife. The New York City man was said to be in possession of collectible figures and drug prescription information for the deceased owner. The man was found with a plastic bag of sports memorabilia that he was removing from the house. Further investigation by Detective Sergeant Joseph Soto and Detective Michael Musto disclosed that the ex-wife had no lawful authority over her deceased husband’s property, including the house and its contents. Police believe that computers, custom-made suits, and financial records had also been removed before they arrived. The ex-wife and the man from New York City were charged with burglary and theft and the man was also charged with providing false identity to a law enforcement officer after giving a fictitious place of residence. Each of them was released on $10,000 bail and the complaints have been referred to Bergen County Superior Court. Committee endorses two grant requests The Wyckoff Township Committee has officially requested a Bergen County Community Development grant for the township and has endorsed a request for a second BCCD grant for the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat. The $123,000 grant for the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat would pay for repairs, improvements, and energy conservation for the lodges that are a part of the facility. The township committee’s approval is mandatory because, under New Jersey’s State Interlocal Services Act, Community Development funds may not be spent without the approval of the governing body of the municipality where the facility is located. No direct use of Wyckoff funds would be involved in this project. The smaller of the two grants, a BCCD grant for $83,000, would be applied to reconstruct a Wyckoff Town Hall entrance to provide barrier-free access. This project, while it directly benefits the general public, would also be covered by Bergen County funds. Wyckoff has used Bergen County Community Development funds for a number of barrier-free projects including curb ramps and an elevator. J.
