Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • November 18, 2009 Midland Park Students learn Victorian culture through tea Students in Brian Ersalesi and Thomas Steinfeld’s English 12 course recently celebrated their culmination of a unit on British Literature with an Afternoon Tea at Belamari Tea Room in Hawthorne. For the past two months, students have been reading and learning about British history and literature during the Victorian Era. Aside from textbook readings, students also participated in an in-class reading of the classic play Pygmalion, which was the basis for the film My Fair Lady. After studying the manners and culture of the era, students put their manners to test at a Full Afternoon Tea at Belamari. Aside from the scrumptious scones, sandwiches and desserts, students also participated in discussions with the proprietors of Belamari about the history of tea and its importance to cultures around the world.
