Franklin Lakes November 18, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 The Woman’s Club of Franklin Lakes will celebrate its 60th anniversary at a members’ luncheon to be held at the Indian Trail Club. The luncheon, celebrating the longevity and achievements of the WCFL, will include several events. Franklin Lakes Mayor Maura DeNicola will present the club with a proclamation in recognition of the club’s many accomplishments. Service awards will be presented to individuals who have been members for 10 to 30 years, and club presidents since 1978 will be recognized for their strong leadership. A brief history of the club, “1949 to the Present,” will be presented, and a champagne toast will honor the club for its philanthropy. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win door prizes. The president of the NJSFWC, based in New Brunswick, and other federation dignitaries, will help the club celebrate this milestone. Rose Auricchio, hospitality chairman of the Woman’s Club, and June Linz and Marilyn Scott, co-presidents, are organizing the event. The club was formed in October 1949 by 17 civicminded women. Two months later, the club joined the New Club celebrates 60 years of service to community Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs. The NJSFWC is the largest volunteer women’s service organization in the state, providing opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service through participation in local clubs, enabling members to make a difference in the lives of others, one project at a time. The purpose of the WCFL is philanthropic in nature and is achieved by focusing on and actively assisting in civic and educational projects for the betterment of the community. This year, the club’s proceeds benefited autism research, pancreatic cancer research, student scholarships, and other local charities. Ongoing and past activities include the formation of the Public Library Association, which is now the Franklin Lakes Public Library, and the fulfillment of a pledge of $10,000 to the library’s expansion program. The WCFL gives ongoing support via donations to the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps and has facilitated the installation of permanent barriers on Route 4 and adopted a section of Route 208 through the New Jersey’s Adopt a Highway program. The Woman’s Club helped establish the Franklin Lakes Senior Citizens’ Club and the Franklin Lakes Meals on Wheels program. The club’s members remain active in meeting the ongoing needs of the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation’s food pantry, and annually sponsor delegates to the Girls’ Career Institute and the Hugh O’Brian Foundation.
