November 18, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 27 Park Windmill Breakfast with Santa set The Midland Park Fire Department will be hosting its Annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the firehouse on Witte Drive. Breakfast includes pancakes and sausage, coffee, and juice. Tickets are $4 per adult and $2 for children ages two through 12. Children under two will be admitted free. All children will receive a souvenir photo and small gift from Santa. Holiday gift collection planned Jacobsen Landscape Design and Construction is hosting a holiday gift collection to benefit the young patients at Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund. The wish list includes arts and craft items, games, toddler and baby toys, gifts for teenagers, clothing for infants through young adults, videos, DVDs, CDs, and gift cards to area stores. All items must be new and unwrapped. Collection boxes have been placed at Jacobsen’s 413 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park location. Model train show comes to church The 2009 Bergen County Model Train Show returns to the United Methodist Church of Midland Park during Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend in December. The train club will feature several layouts featuring multiple train gauges. Along with steam, diesel, and electric engines, both older versions and current models, will be Thomas and Friends. New this year will be Christmas-themed On30/Department 56 display and a magic trolleys layout. On the “O” gauge layouts, both passenger and freight trains will be running, along with subways. Layouts will include a firehouse with moving fire trucks. Mel’s Diner will have cars pulling into parking spaces to be greeted and served by a waitress. Station announcements, flashing lights, bells, whistles and chugging trains will also be part of the action. Tickets for the show are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Shub to perform benefit concert Lauren Shub will perform in the New Music Concert Series at the United Methodist Church, 269 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park, on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. Hosted by local singer/songwriter and slide guitarist Robert Hill, proceeds will go to CUMAC to help feed the hungry. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to CUMAC. Shub is trained actor and singer with a bachelor’s degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has acted on Broadway with Celeste Holm in the “Utter Glory of Morrissey Hall,” and appeared as Theodore Bikel’s daughter in “Fiddler on the Roof.” She has also sung with some of the finest jazz musicians in New York, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. Defensive driving course offered A one-day defensive driving course will be offered through AARP at the Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center in Midland Park on Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The AARP Driver Safety Program has helped millions of drivers sharpen their driving skills and save money on insurance premiums. The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center is located at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park, and is open to all area senior citizens age 60 and up. A wide variety of activities, services, and a hot lunch program are offered Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children’s craft offered at library The Midland Park Library is offering a Thanksgiving family craft activity will be offered at the library on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. A variety of crafts will be available for children to make and take home. Registration for these programs will take place in the Children’s Room. Midland Park Library is located at 250 Godwin Avenue. Scouts collect for pet shelter Midland Park Girl Scout Troop 134 is collecting pet supplies and food for Angels for Animal Network, which takes in abandoned animals until homes can be found for them. Items being collected include dry cat food, cat toys, cat treats, and cleaning supplies, such as paper towels and bleach. THEO sets schedule THEO (To Help Each Other), the social club for widows and widowers, has planned several fall activities. The Nov. 17 meeting will feature turkey sandwiches, desserts, and coffee. Dancing, coffee, and dessert will be offered on Dec. 1. The Christmas Party, scheduled for Dec. 15, will include music by Dick Richards, sandwiches, salads, beverages, and dessert.
