November 11, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 Wyckoff Township voters choose Republican representatives by John Koster Two Republican newcomers, Christopher DePhillips and Kevin Rooney, have won election to the Wyckoff Township Committee by a margin of more than 1,000 votes over candidates Brian Hubert, a Democrat, who ran with Diane Sobin, an Independent. DePhillips, an attorney, received 3,681 votes, and Rooney, a businessman and certified tree expert, received 3,533 votes. Hubert, a corporate real estate manager and former elected official in Ridgefield Park, received 2,594 votes and Sobin, a financial consultant and portfolio manager, received 2,131 votes. DePhillips is an attorney. He is a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School, and later received a BA from Georgetown and a law degree from Seton Hall. He is a member of the Wyckoff Education Foundation, and is active in a number of committees of the American Bar Association. He has been active in the Wyckoff Republican League, the Sicomac School PTO, the Wyckoff YMCA, and Wyckoff Torpedoes. He has lived in Wyckoff for seven years. He and his wife have four children. Rooney is a partner in a real estate management firm and owns an equestrian business in partnership with his wife. He has served on the Wyckoff Board of Adjustment since 1999 and is currently the chairman of the board. He is a certified tree expert and is a member of the Wyckoff Shade Tree Commission. He grew up in Upper Saddle River and attended Northern Highlands Regional High School and Ramapo College. His wife Hayley is a lifelong Wyckoff resident. They have four children. Hubert is a vice president in the financial and strategic analysis unit of a major banking institution. A graduate of Ridgefield Park High School, Hubert graduated from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He served as a member of the board of commissioners in Ridgefield Park’s non-partisan elected government for seven years before moving to Wyckoff. Hubert has coached girls’ basketball and softball for several years and is past president of the Wyckoff Football Boosters Association. Sobin is a financial consultant and portfolio manager. She and her family moved to Wyckoff in 1996. A graduate of Pace University, she is a chartered financial analyst, and a member of the New York Society of Securities Analysts. She is an equity portfolio manager. The candidate has served as a volunteer manager with her daughter’s Torpedoes Soccer Team, as a Booster representative for the Ramapo Varsity Cheerleading Squad, and chaired the Cheerleading Tournament at Ramapo High School in 2006.
