Wyckoff May 27, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 Robert J. Shannon Jr., recently received the Silver Beaver Award from the Northern New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The award, established in 1931, is the highest honor a registered adult leader can receive. The Silver Beaver is presented to individuals who do not actively seek recognition, but work diligently, showing selfsacrifice, and dedication. In his hometown of Wyckoff, where he is the township’s administrator, Shannon is a volunteer firefighter, a founding member of the Wyckoff Education Foundation, and a former volunteer swim official for the YMCA. He is a member of several local organizations, including the Wyckoff/Midland Park Rotary Club, the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Fundraising Fair Committee at Eastern Shannon receives Silver Beaver Award from BSA Christian Children’s Retreat. During the 1980s, Shannon was publicity chairman for the Ramapo Mountains BSA District. He joined Troop 77 in 2000 as assistant Scoutmaster. He has served as troop committee chairman and assistant district chair, and currently serves as district chairman for the Iaoapogh Mountains District. He also served as an archery instructor at the Northeast Region Action Center at the 2005 National Jamboree. Over the years, Shannon has received the Iaoapogh Mountains District Award of Merit, District Committee Key, the Wyckoff YMCA Humanitarian of the Year Award, the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department Distinguished Service Award, the New Jersey Municipal Management (continued on page 20) Anthony J.
