Sergeant retires from police force
by Frank J. McMahon After almost 33 years of service to the Borough of Franklin Lakes, Police Sergeant and Traffic Safety Officer William Colligan announced his retirement from the force effective July 1. “I feel fortunate and blessed to have served the residents of this community and alongside the fine men and women I have come in contact with along my journey,” Colligan stated in his e-mail to Police Chief Irving Conklin advising him of his plans to retire. “A special thanks to the mayor and the borough council for providing me with that privilege,” Colligan continued. “It is extremely difficult to leave when you feel as proud and enthusiastic to be a Franklin Lakes police officer today, as I did on Dec. 15, 1976 when my dad, a Ridgewood police officer, pinned my badge on me at a council meeting. I am looking forward to pursuing my retirement with the same enthusiasm and enjoyment I have always found in my job here. It has been an honor to serve under Chief Irving Conklin and the Franklin Lakes (continued on page 21)
