Wyckoff May 20, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 Woman charged with beating husband. torching house A 65-year-old Wyckoff woman has been charged with beating up her husband and then setting fire to her own house after the husband escaped her wrath. The woman was arrested after the Wyckoff Police Department and the Wyckoff Fire Department arrived, responding to a telephone call the woman reportedly made immediately after she doused a workbench in the garage with gasoline and set it on fire. Previously, she had had an argument with her 68-year-old husband in which police say she struck and hit him with her hand, causing an injury to his head. The husband fled the house and the woman then set fire to the workbench in the garage. Bail was set at $10,000 for one charge of assault and one charge of arson, and the complaint was forwarded to Bergen County Superior Court. Wyckoff Police Sergeant David Murphy -- approrpriately, also chief of the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department -- made the investigation in tandem with Patrolman Kevin Kasak and Detective Michael Ragucci, assisted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Arson Invesigtaion Squad. In a separate incident, a 53-year-old Wyckoff man was charged with violating a court order by texting and otherwise harassing his girlfriend, and he was arrested on a Wyckoff warrant by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for contempt of a domestic violence restraining order when he showed up in family court.. Police broke up a loud party on May 10 and charged a 20-year-old Wyckoff man with making property available for persons under the legal age who wished to consume alcohol. He was also charged with providing fictititious identification to a law officer when arrested and was released in his own recognizance.
