March 18, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 17 �������������������������� Three Wyckoff firefighters sustained injuries following the fire at a two-family house the morning of March 10. One volunteer firefighter suffered smoke inhalation, one sprained an ankle, and another received a minor injury when he was bitten by a cat he rescued from the building. The injured volunteers have received treatment. Wyckoff police officers responded first and found the front of the house engulfed in flames. The only human occupant was a 20-year-old resident, who escaped injury, as did the dog and cat. The Wyckoff Fire Department extinguished the fire with assistance from several area fire departments. Fire leaves township home uninhabitable The fire caused extensive damage to the home on Mountain Avenue, and the home was declared uninhabitable by the Wyckoff Building Department due to extensive fire and smoke damage. Mountain Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic for several hours while firefighters worked at the scene. The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time, and an investigation is being conducted by the Wyckoff Police Department, Wyckoff Fire Department, and the Bergen County Arson Squad. Wyckoff Police Sergeant Charles Van Dyk and Robert Mackay and Patrolman Brian Zivkovich were the first responders on the scene. Flowers, books offered for sale The de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff will hold a Spring Flower and Book Sale Friday, April 3, in the CHCC’s auditorium. The Flower Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the “Reading is Fun” book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Flowers may be pre-ordered for individuals or for CHCC residents for delivery to their rooms. Order forms are available in The de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room, the CHCC Commons Lobby, and in most reception areas throughout CHCC’s campus. The book sale will feature a variety of books and compact discs. In addition to purchasing flowers at the sale, a wide selection of Dutch treats will be available for sale.
