This year’s board of education election in Midland Park will see a contest, as two candidates have filed for a twoyear unexpired term. The three incumbents seeking reelection to full three-year terms are running unopposed. Michael Hahn, a former board member who was appointed in June to replace longtime trustee Joan Vandervliet, is being challenged in his run for the two-year term by Maryalice Thomas-Hagerty. Vandervliet resigned after 18 years on the board for health reasons. The three incumbents running unopposed are Paula Lein, Robert Schiffer and William Sullivan. Hahn served for three years on the board before losing reelection to a second term three years ago. He works for a national technology solutions provider and is active in the town recreation programs as a basketball and softball coach. A parishioner of Church of the Nativity, he is a member of the High School PTA, Performing Arts Parents (PAPS) and the Booster’s Association. He chairs the board’s Technology Review Committee and is the liaison to Special Education and previously chaired the negotiations committee. He and his wife, Nancy, have two daughters, Alexandra
