Journal commemorates volunteer fire department The Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department is turning 100 this year. To help fund the birthday celebration, the Anniversary Committee has scheduled several fundraising activities, including an ad journal. The book will feature a history of the department accompanied by vintage photographs. A comprehensive update of the last 25 years honors past heroes and highlights their struggles and their contributions to modern firefighting advances. The committee invites residents and organizations to take out an ad in the journal. All contributions are 100 percent tax-deductible. Ad costs are $500 for a full page, $250 for a half page, $125 for a quarter page, and $50 for business cardsized ad. Ads and checks, made payable to MPFD, may be mailed to the Midland Park Fire Department at P.O. Box 51, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Golf Outing to benefit MP Fire Department The Midland Park Fire Department will host a Charity Golf Outing at the Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin on April 27. Breakfast will be at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. tee time. Cost per player is $125. Foursomes and singles are welcome. Sign up by March 20 by sending a check payable to the MPFD and mail to 45 Witte Drive, Midland Park, NJ 07432, Attention: MPFD Golf Outing. Auxiliary plans Fashion Show The Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church on Prospect Street. The group will review plans for its Fashion Show/Luncheon. The meeting will feature a cake decorating demonstration by Gilda Gilmartin. Any resident wishing to join the group is welcome. Tickets for the Fashion Show, the chapter’s major fundraiser, will be distributed at the meeting. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at the Brownstone. Anyone wishing tickets for the traditionally sold-out event is asked to contact Joanne Cotz-Levine at (201) 652-0873. ‘Leader of the Pack’ presented Midland Park High School will present “Leader of the Pack,” showcasing the girl groups of the ‘60s, and featuring music written by Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry. Performances will be on Thursday and Friday, March 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 21 at 8 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12. For tickets, call (201) 444-7400 extension 511. ‘Mother Goose’ to visit library “Mother Goose” will be at the Midland Park Library on March 11 at 10:30 a.m. for a fun-filled program. Ann Coppola has worked with young children to develop imagination, an appreciation of the marvelous, a sense of fun, and the confidence to express themselves independently. Interactive story play will be used to accomplish these goals. Children will explore different worlds through movement sound and props. The program is suitable for children ages five and younger. Register in the children’s room of the library, 250 Godwin Avenue. Library sets activities A Saint Patrick’s Day craft is planned for Monday, March 16 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Midland Park Public Library. Sign up in the children’s room. The Barking Book Buddies love to hear stories read to them by young patrons. Phoebe and Blackjack are available alternating Monday evenings, Champ is available on Wednesday afternoons, and Cosmo is available Thursday afternoons. Stop in or call to experience this wonderful program. Reading skills and confidence grow in this non-judgmental setting. The Midland Park Library is located at 250 Godwin Avenue. Masses available for differently-abled at Nativity The Church of the Nativity in Midland Park will be celebrating monthly Catholic masses for differently-abled people. Upcoming Masses, will be at 9 a.m. on
March 15, April 19, May 17, and June 21. These masses are specifically for families with members who are differentlyabled. Many people who are challenged behaviorally, mentally or physically may have difficulty in traditional Sunday Mass environments, so families are unable to worship together and may avoid Mass altogether. These families are welcome to attend these Masses and celebrate the Eucharist with other members of the surrounding community. Fish & Chips Dinner offered A Fish & Chips Dinner by Tastefully British will be held at the Church of Good Shepherd on Friday, March 27.
