Durfee has been a resident of Franklin Lakes for 12 years and has three sons, one of whom will be graduating from Ramapo High School this year. A graduate of the University of Wyoming, he has a bachelor’s degree in finance. He has been employed by Equinox Capital Inc., and has previously been employed by Manufacturers Hanover Trust and Smith Barney in acquisition finance, and at Butler Capital. He has been active in the Athletic Booster Association at Ramapo High, served as president of the school’s touchdown club, and coached in the borough’s recreation programs. Franklin Lakes Board of Education: Incumbents Joseph Conti and Kathie Schwartz will be seeking reelection to three year terms on that school board while incumbent Cherise Coleburn has decided not to seek reelection. Four other residents who have not served on the school board before have also filed nominating petitions. Conti has been on the board for 12 years and has been the board’s president during that time. He is seeking his fifth term. Schwartz has completed a one year term on the board of education. During that time, she served on the Operations, Community Relations, and the Personnel committees. She has also been a Franklin Lakes Education Foundation representative. She has a BA in accounting from Rutgers College and an MBA in finance from NYU Stern School of Business. She has three students at Woodside Avenue School. Her general background is in accounting and finance, and she has had a diversified career in banking, having spent more than 10 years in banking and finance, most recently as a managing director at Deutsche Bank. She resigned from that position in 2002 when she had triplets and decided to be a stay at home mom and become more involved in her community. Michael Ben-David lives on Pawnee Lane. He holds a doctorate in law and a master’s degree in educational leadership. He has two children in the borough’s elementary schools and has been an educator for 10 years. He says his intention in seeking election to the board is to volunteer his background and experience in an area that will be useful to the board and the people of Franklin Lakes. Margaret Bennett lives on Aspen Way and she has resided in Franklin Lakes for five years. She has four children and holds a MA in creative writing. She is a writer and editor. For eight years, she managed a research group for a mid-sized brokerage firm where she helped develop a successful financial research product. She has also been a consultant on marketplace research design, a writing teacher and content editor and she is a board member of the New Jersey Coalition for World Class Math. She has regularly attended board of education meetings and is on the Franklin Lakes District Math Revision Committee. John F. Woods Jr. lives on Indian Trail Drive and has five children, three of whom are attending the borough’s elementary schools. He has a BS in accounting from The College of New Jersey and is currently chief financial officer of an investment partnership in Greenwich, Connecticut. His community activities include being the co-director of Franklin Lakes Recreation Flag Football Program and coach of various recreation sports in the community including baseball, tee-ball, and soccer.
