Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • June 24, 2009 Emmanuel asks... Can You Help? Our hat’s off to the Glen Rock Women in Community Service (WICS) for the recent food drive and for the amazing ongoing support. We also thank The Church of the Nativity for the food drive the weekend of June 13 and 14. Samay (pronounced Sam-May) turned 12 this past month. For one solid year now, she has had a rare form of cancer that attacks the muscles. “Getting the cancer last year on my birthday was not the birthday present I was looking for,” Samay said. “I was hoping for concert tickets and some clothing. What I got instead was a whole year of being sick, missing my friends at school, being at the hospital, going through medical tests, and medicines that really made me feel terrible. I feel a little better so I am hoping for those tickets this year.” Samay actually did get 4-29-09 karen/janine tickets, but had to give them away because she was too sick to go to the concert. EmmanuelHelp2x.75(4-29-09)daughter’s toughness Her mom, Selista, admires her and spirit. “She has not quit or given up under the worst of 3 x .75 Chamber winners circumstances and especially for being so young,” Selista commented. “There is no quit in her. She is an inspiration to us. The whole family has had to pitch in and help as well as deal with adjusting to doing and receiving less things, particularly since the economy has been bad and our jobs have been cut back. We are so thankful to Emmanuel for being there for us in the hard times. Their caseworkers are truly wonderful and have helped us know at least two things: one, that we are not alone in this; and two, that they are here to help us through it all.” Samay’s family could use food items such as rice, beans, cereal, fruit, peanut butter and jelly, and other non-perishable thongs. They also need financial help, which they and many others have received through the Family Financial Assistance Program, which is starting to show signs of becoming depleted. Your direct contribution to the Family Financial Assistance Program will help Samay’s family and the many other families served by the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation.
