Wyckoff Township Committeeman Rudy Boonstra, the liaison to the Wyckoff Library Board, announced that he had been able to resolve issues between the township committee and the library board to concur on a library board return of $303,000 from the funding Wyckoff must give the library each year by state mandate. The matter had been under discussion for some time. “We’re ready to submit to the state library board,” Boonstra said. Mayor Fiorenzo noted that the agreement did not involve any agreement on the Wyckoff Township Committee’s part to grant automatic approval of plans to expand the library as a quid pro quo, as had reportedly been proposed. “We’re not entering any obligation to approve the project,” Fiorenzo said. Additional revenues will be realized through the township committee’s agreement to sell off a parcel of 11,000 square feet of land near Ramapo High School. The purchaser is a neighbor who wants to add the land to his own residential lot. The land was appraised at $6 per square foot, and the lot is too small to permit independent construction of a new house. Township officials said that selling the land Local residents will have a chance to pick up some bargains on June 20 at 11 a.m. when items found by the Wyckoff Police Department, but never claimed, are offered at auction. Participants will be able to bid on 27 different bicycles, six scooters, a teakettle, an FM pen, a CD player and CDs, router bits, a backpack blower, and a number of other items. “The police department keeps what they call ‘found property,’” Wyckoff Township Administrator Robert Shannon explained. “The officers find this in the woods, or by the side of the road. If they can’t find the people it belongs to within six months, the township is left with the property. At some point, we auction the property off to use the money to reduce the impact of taxes on the residents.” The day of the auction, potential bidders are invited to Auction to feature ‘found property’ to a property owner allows the township to turn a liability that had to be insured and maintained, into an asset in terms of property taxes. The committee also learned of a 200 Club grant to provide computer software for the fire department. Auction items will include multiple bicycles. a preview to be held at 10:30 a.m. at the municipal garage on 476 West Main Street. All sales are final.
