Page 18 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • June 10, 2009 Christopher Scott Dalenberg and Geoffrey A. Garlick recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout: the top honor in Boy Scouting. Dalenberg began his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub with Pack 309 of Wyckoff and advanced through the ranks, achieving the Arrow of Light Award from Pack 309. He bridged to Troop 77 in February of 2002. He has held many leadership positions in Troop 77, including patrol leader and senior patrol leader. Dalenberg received the Ad Altari Dei and the Order of the Sword of Saint George Award. His Eagle project consisted of the construction of a 30 by 30 butterfly garden and landscaping at Sicomac School. The project ties in with the second grade students’ study of the migration of monarch butterflies. Dalenberg obtained the assistance of local businessmen from Wyckoff, Scouts from the troop, and friends, who participated in over 250 hours to complete his project. The businesses and organizations that provided materials and financial contributions include Borst Landscape and Design, What’s Blooming, The Market Basket, and the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary. The project planned for the planting of over 100 butterfly friendly, perennials and over 150 daffodil bulbs within the landscape portion. Next month, Dalenberg will graduate from Ramapo High School. He plans to attend Ramapo College of New Jersey in the fall. He is a cashier at the Market Basket and a member of the Ramapo High School Academic Decathlon team. He enjoys playing the bass and acoustic guitar, and golfing and hiking with his father and brother. For over 12 years, Scouting has been one of Garlick’s passions. He entered Scouting as a Tiger Cub in first grade, in Den 5 of Pack 309. In fifth grade, he earned the Arrow of Light, and bridged to Troop 77 in February of 2002. Since that time he has been a very active member of the troop. He is an Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s Honor Society. He has also earned the Ad Altare Dei Award and the Order of the Sword of Saint George Award from the Archdiocese of Newark’s Catholic Committee on Scouting. Garlick has served in many leadership capacities in the troop, including patrol leader, quartermaster, scribe, assistant chaplain, and senior patrol leader. He is a graduate of the Boy Scout’s National Youth Leadership Training and was selected by the Oakland-Franklin Lakes Rotary Club to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, from which he graduated in 2008. Wyckoff Sale Days June 11-12-13 Dalenberg and Garlick earn Eagle Scout status Christopher Dalenberg and Geoffrey A, Garlick His Eagle Service Project was to organize a number of the groups in Wyckoff to collect and send medical supplies to the neediest individuals in Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines. He was able to ship six large cartons of medical supplies, positively affecting the lives and health of a large number of people who have no access to basic health care. His interest in the needs of the poor in Bohol was sparked by his relationship with Fr. Fernando Po, who grew up in Tagbilaran and is now a Parochial Vicar at Geoffrey’s Church, Saint Elizabeth’s in Wyckoff. Garlick is a senior at Indian Hills High School. His many interests include a passion for computers and technology, and digital photography. He is the unofficial photographer of the IHHS Interact Club. He is a prolific poet, and is editor of the school’s literary journal. After high school, he plans to attend Bergen Community College and then transfer to a four year college. His career goal is to become a clinical psychologist, and wants to find ways to integrate technology into counseling and therapy. Garlick plans to stay active in Scouting, and has already been accepted by Troop 77 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
